Remy at Sample Seed Shop named Plan 9 because (she says) she really liked the movie.
Also, my Shadow Boxing is "Type 4". There were at least 5 or more types of the cross that produced them, so it is important to note the Type along with the name. No matter what, they are all gorgeous. My juice is especially good tasting because everything I grew was especially good tasting. I LUV IT !!!!

Interesting. I didn't know that about Shadow Boxing. Mine did not come to me with a number. Good to know, though, thanks.

Here is a few "Beauts" directly from the garden of Wild Boar Farms. I spent time working with Brad a few weeks back helping him pick and process seeds and he was generous enough to pay me in fruited currency, aka Tomatoes.

such incredible color and diversity. We are so privileged to know each other and learn and share with one another. So much has changed for me since I joined this group and I am thankful to be able to grow such beautiful tomatoes too. I have come so far from my mother's sour red boring prairie farm garden determinates of my childhood.

KarenO, you are absolutely correct. It is an exciting time to be involved with the new stuff and still enjoying the old standards. All of the breeders, amateurs and professionals, are producing a lot of interesting new varieties. Personally, I feel very privileged to be involved with the current scene.
The pictures above are but a small sample of what we are seeing. We are indeed very fortunate.

I just love colorful tomatoes especially bi /multi /varigated one. Plain red tomatoes are good too but are just ordinary. .

Barbee, How was the taste on Raspberry Miracle? I couldn't resist ordering the seeds, but didn't get around to planting it this year.

This was by far the most beautiful and probably also best tasting tomato this season. Ironically I’m not really sure what variety this is. I bought the seeds from an Italian company that sold it under the name “Cuore di bue arancione”, which could be easily translated into “Orange Oxheart”. Besides translating the original name (hate that…), the seller didn’t provide any further information regarding the history of this tomato. I know there is actually an Orange Oxheart variety, but to me, “my” tomato resembles more the Orange Russian 117. What do you think about it? The biggest one was 10 oz. but the production was very low and extremely late (around 105 days!). Some fruits also had BER. Despite all this it will definitely be back in my garden next year.
Below are pictures of two different tomatoes growing next to each other. |
