12 gauge, buckshot. Yes, you will need to get in a blind or the roof of your house to get rid of them. Shot many of them (when I lived down south), usually they just dig up your yard looking for grubs, but are very destructive and do not go away on their own.

Tonight around 9pm sister Pickles went on the back porch with the flashlight just to have a look around and spotted the armadillo over by the side of the house. I grabbed the shotgun and since it was slowly heading toward the front, we went around the house the other way and waited. All the cats were secure in the house so when it wandered into view, lit up by the security light with a nice broadside view..... no more 'dillo. It was a big male.

It has now been placed a ways off the road shoulder where it will be recycled by the buzzards. Tomorrow I will fill in all the holes it dug last night. Hopefully it will be the last time.

Last week I was pricing a trap at the feed 'n weed and they had grub killer on sale, $8 for a bag that will treat 10,000 sq ft so I got one. When I got home I got out what we used to call the "wheel of fortune" at work (the rolling measuring wheel) and measured the areas of digging activity. I'll need one more bag and the two won't treat the whole place but they will cover the areas where I've seen mole tunnels.

Armadillos must not be very smart. The only ones I see are sleeping right in the middle of the road. :-)
My neighbor lady told me she has a pet armadillo and a groundhog that live in a wooded area next to her house. I saw the groundhog yesterday and he looked like a young one, so there are probably more than one. She retired from the CA govt and moved here from Sacramento about 3 years ago. Very nice lady, but talking to her it didn't take long to realize she wasn't from around here. She loves it here and is renting a space in our new Farmers Market to sell some of her homemade quilts and meet other quilters. My only problem with her is she doesn't like tomatoes.

I used 20 ga. #4 shot. Worked like a charm. One shot, about 25'.

Here in south Florida, armadillos aren't are everywhere. I can tell which neighbors don't spray or treat for grubs because they have similar holes all over the yard. They have terrible eyesight and many times you can walk right up to them. If you shoot em in the lips, birdshot will do the trick. I don't typically shoot them bc I usually come across them in their natural habitat when I'm quail or bunny hunting. I never see just one in an area so keep that 20ga loaded.

Nice! Unfortunately my wallet won't allow all that. Got the 20 ga shotgun, a 9mm pistol, .22 plinker rifle, old 30-06 (was my Dad's) and an 1873 trap door Springfield. Might have to sell that Springfield to get the AR platform I want.

Nice little collection there! I've got a few, but my lil 20 ga. is my favorite varmint gun...it's a short "youth model". Very handy.

I have an older Winchester pump 1300 12 gauge with a rotary bolt they stopped making.
In my opinion it was one of the best and fastest pump shotguns ever made.

I hunt with a Winchester 1819 pump 20 gauge shotgun. I would love to take you on in a competition with this one.

It is an awesome gun and everyone that tries it just can't miss. Fast and accurate, light, what more could you want?
