I believe the problem is in the soil temperature, rather than the air. Yes, the plants exposed to very high temperatures will lose their water quickly, wilt and so on, but as long as the water is provided often enough, they'll be okay.
On the other hand, if the soil is overheated, the root system has serious problems absorbing nutrients properly. BER is the first warning, but it can, IMHO, go even further, e.g. insufficient intake of potassium and brown leaves or parts of the plant as a result. Shading the whole plants makes good sense, but I think keeping the soil temperature under 86 or 87°F is the key to the problem. Milan HP |

FINALLY I took the plunge and ordered my shade clothe. It will come in 4 pieces so I can install four separate panels for better wind stability.
The color is white, knitted, 50% shade. They will come as FINISHED, meaning edges are sowed..etc. I've got the lumber and plan ready.
