Get LED and a color temperature of at least 5000K.
LEDs don't produce near as much heat which means you can get your light much closer.

I've also used 4 foot shop lights (now T-8) for many years with success. One important point
I didn't see in this thread is when purchasing is getting one with a hood or reflector. Just so you don't make the mistake of getting a light strip, which doesn't reflect the light toward the plants. Along with the 40Watts each lamps the Kelvin number should be around 5000k. Or just get Daylight lamps, which is basically the same thing and your plants will thank you.

I use a touch control light that I only use on cloudy days.
Pure sunshine is more healthy for all plants.
