Would you believe there is a Mexican restaurant in Houston called Gringo's?
It is so bland. I mean TASTELESS. Then I saw the silverware and probably every item (food or utensil) in the kitchen was from SYSCO. Yuck!

They must have some manufacturing process that sucks the flavor out of the food. I don't know how they can make every ingredient from the produce and meat down to the seasonings taste so insipid. It's like ballpark food.

Feldon, what you want to do is actually read that ingredient list. Shocker. Read a bottle of ketchup the other day where the first ingredient was high fructose corn syrup - and one of relish where the HFC syrup was #1 and sugar was #2. And then there were the Pecan Sandies my daughter brought home.
They smelled funny - annoyingly cloying. And it wasn't just me, the kiddo noticed too. You could smell the danged things all over the house. So I read the ingredients and I dang near died. Not a single pecan molecule in the entire bag. They are not just "artificially flavored" as in they have fake vanilla - they contain FAKE PECANS! And these were Keebler. Don't get me started on meat - unless you raise your own, buy buffalo or all natural all of it is shot full of steroids - aka "growth hormones." (And we wonder why our kids are getting bigger?) And now I read in Mother Earth News that the various companies that have tried to foist irradiated foods off on us are unhappy because nobody will buy the crap. So, they are lobbying to get the FDA to change the regs so that this irradiated food can be labeled "pasteurized" instead of "irradiated" with the radiation symbol. Nothing is REAL anymore. Might just as well take food pills! |

Feldon,
I wrap my onions and sometimes carrots and potatoes from the garden in foil and grill along with my meat. Have been using butter but going to try your recipe sounds like it should be great. Jay |

elkwc36 - try olive oil. Two of our favorites are sliced zucchini & onion with olive oil, garlic & a tad of salt and cubed potatoes doused with a little Italian salad dressing. Add grated Parmesan to the zucchini just before you serve up.

I'd be so down for this idea. A six pack and a handful of food pills and I could sleep like a baby every night!
J/K sort of, sometimes, after a long day a work, a crying baby at home, dinner time gets postponed till 8:45 or 9:00 and I'm just not willing to spend my last hour cooking a good meal, so food pills would be very handy..... Maybe in 2050..... Update on the salsa, I made it, found the garden fresh tomatoes made it way to watery, so I boiled it till it cooked down a little. I followed one of the recipes in the recipe thread, it called for sugar, which I added, and it made it too sweat. Sweat burn was not very appetizing. I'll make some more soon. The blender did get it just a tad to ground up, so I'll be using the food processor next time and try the idea of canned tomatoes..... |

I've had UHT (Ultra-High Temperature) pasteurized milk. It's got a burnt taste.
