I do know if my (sungoldxJuliet) X Black Cherry were F! or F2

I am trying to attach a photo so if it works you can see the size comparison of Black Cherry, Sungold F1, and the
SungoldxJuliet X BlackCherry.

It takes 10 of the Sungold F1 to = 2oz
It takes 5 of the Black Cherry or The SngoldxJulietXBlack Cherry to = 2 oz

Finally Some Colour!!



Well, today is August 17th, and I have picked one very small New Yorker which I will taste taste today, and will shortly enjoy these cherry-sized Sungold x Mom's F2 - only problem is I don't know what colour to expect, so will wait until they feel ripe. These are the first of my four F2s to ripen (Plant 1).

Sungold x Mom's F2 Plant 1 - while this cherry was juicy, with nice 'acid' it was rather one dimensional, and skins were tough. But just look at the colour change from previous pic! Thought this one would be light yellow, but ended up almost apricot, good thing I waited. Plants 2 and 3 have slightly larger fruit starting to lighten up; Plant 4 has small fruit, red in colour (not yet tasted).

Will post more pics as ripening progresses.

Been working with a Cp X sungold cross I made last year. Some gave the prediction that all the F1 would be very similar. In this particular case all plants have produced fruit to 1oz, and some to 1.5oz, so it seems he cross took. The color is 3 red 2 organgish(bicolor before completely soft dead ripe) for 5. Flavor superb equal or better in some cases to sungold. Have about 15 CP X SG F2 growin, and 15 SG X indian stripe F2 I got from a tomato villiain. How homogenous are the fruit you are getting(Taste, size, color)?

Vince, what with our crazy "summer" here in the PNW I can't even comment on colour of Plants 2 and 3 - Plant 4 is a very small cherry - red in colour. Taste reports will be posted as soon as fruit ripens

As mentioned above all plants put out fruit to 1oz and some up to 1.5ozs. They are long gone and the F3s started for fall. Cheers

Here is Mom's, it's a bi-color but not your typical bi-color... it's more orange & red...

Hmm, interesting Korney, thank you for the pic for comparison. I notice the gold one takes on a bit of a red blush at top when really ripe .... Certainly none nearing the size of Mom's though Containers are 4 inches across (click on pic for real close up).

Mid-September and the tomatoes are finally starting to come in ...... Unfortunately a good portion of my larger tomatoes have suffered gray mold this year; a most devasting disease that I have only encountered one other year. I'll post a few pics shortly, just to show the good, the bad, and the ugly.


Anyhoo, the good for now - here are fruits from the four plants of the Sungold x Mom's F1 - a nice diverse selection - from left to right: Plant 2, Plant 1, Plant 3, Plant 4. So it appears we have gold, pink and red from this cross. Taste test results to follow. I'm hoping the large pink cherry will be up there in taste - if yes I think we have something worth growing out next year!! All are decent croppers for cherry types - but as you can see Plant 3 is somewhat later in ripening.

Plant 4: red, another nice one - more on the acid side, juicy, nice depth, skins a bit tough




Plant3: red, my least favourtie - little flavour, skins somewhat tough - latest of all




Plant 2: pink, very nice, on the sweet side, juicy, smooth, worth growing again





Plant 1: gold, mellow, not as juicy as the others; on the sweet side - earliest of the four plants

From your descriptions, it looks like I should have trialed some of these F2's, instead of the various OP Sungolds that I tried. They were all lousy.

On a thread drift, your Large Pink Bulgarian PL '02 seed produced a PL red, for me.

PL red - not a lot of those around - yes those were crossed seed, I believe Fusion got a really good heart out of the mix - will have to go back to my notes to refresh my memory on this one .....

How was the taste? Interested in a swap for some of the Sungold x Mom's??? just rinsed seed this a.m. now drying.

A swap, why certainly. Seed from plants 1, 2, & 4, please.

And, what I'd really be interested in, is if you still have some Large Pink Bulgarian PL '02 seed, and/or some of the original '01 seed from Chuck.

The PL red, from your LPB PL saved seed, is one of five PL reds that showed up in my garden this year. Are you interested in the other four? As for taste, all of my reds this year were only OK. It may have been the record rains. My pink tomatoes, though, were fantastic.
