OK, heres the latest on the Hungarian Heirlooms. The first Pic is the Ind. plant and the next three are the Det. plant. Should have a taste of the Ind. maters in the next couple days. Ami

harvested some maters off the Ind plant. Used a golf ball for comparison. No, I don't play but the daughter does. As you can see by the pictures it's a nice tomato, and to tell you the truth I ate them all trying to figure out the taste. What I came up with is not to sweet, not to sour, just pure tomato taste. The first picture is the Ind. plant, next 4 are of the fruit, and the last 2 are of the Det. plant from which I'm anxiously awaiting for the first fruit to ripen. Ami

Got my first ripe one from the Determinate plant and was pleasantly surprised. These are larger than the Ind. (baseball size) and are a meaty tomato with few seeds. Cutting it up reminds me of cutting chunks of watermelon as it's all flesh with just the right amount of moisture. Taste is all tomato, not sweet and not tart, just good tomato flavor. I can see why they grew this from generation to generation. No disease problem with a strong and healthy plant. Production will be good. Here are some pictures. Ami

Here's my latest harvest of both the Indeterminates (The smaller toms) and the Determinates (The five large ones at the top. Sad thing is both plants are loaded with fruit but the weather has gone sour, wet and cold so I don't know if any more will ripen or not. But they will definately return next year. Ami

So, Ami - did you continue to save seeds from both dets and indets, or did you decide one plant was superior? Any differences in taste between them - now that you've had a few more seasons of testing?

I still have plenty of seed but will regrow next year. They produce like a Hybrid but have that good old fashioned taste but they still have their own unique flavor. Being Ind and Det with different size fruit I can't say one is superior to the other. That will have to come from the individual grower themselves. Ami
