Show your butterfly and hummingbird gardens/plants

Thanks. I planted a lot of varieties that have "landing pads" in their centers. Seems like butterflies
like those. I read that they won't waste their time on flowers like pom pom marigolds b/c they can't reach the nectar.

Yes, was just looking through the new Annie’s Annuals catalog for new ideas.

I found that the calibrachoa really drew them last summer.





I had bought a small basket for the verbena in it. The butterflies went for the calibrachoa instead surprising me.

Well, I had to pick up mulch so looked in at both HD and Lowe’s ... nothing exciting or unusual.
The same 15 plants both places, very discouraging.
Wish I lived closer to a real nursery like I did in Massachusetts...
Oh well, I can just start more seeds!

Bees have been spotted in the heather lately but we are a long ways off from having butterflies visiting.

Now that’s interesting. I’ve never seen calibrachoa on lists of butterfly plants.

I was surprised and delighted that they came to it. The calibrachoa never attracted me because I prefer petunias with their scents but if the butterflys like them then that's good enough for me, too! Great range of colours to choose from.

Salvias and African Blue Basil in full swing and bees everywhere. STILL haven’t seen a hummingbird!

I still haven't seen a hummingbird either. I have lots of butterflies however, mostly monarchs. I have some enormous black bees trying to bulldoze their fat bodies into the openings of David Verity cuphea and they just can't do it.

Lol, I watch a half dozen doing that each time I go out there.
Since they’ve learned to drill into the Amistad Salvia flowers sideways at the base you’d think they’d apply that skill to the Cuphea.

Yes, mesmerizing to watch there are so many. And the different species keep out of each other’s way without discernible aggression. I watch them a lot.

I know that some of you have grown this. How big did yours get? Has anyone grown it in a container? The descriptions of the plant on the internet say it can be.

I have 2 of them, both in ground. They are about 2 ft tall or so ...
Should be just fine in a container.
