Shamefully I have to say I’ve just discovered this thread, as I live in a rather hot place its name didn’t ring a bell to me. Then I discovered the great research made by KarenO and enjoyed watching her working techniques and results. Let me ask you KarenO, a silly question, I hope you won’t mind : what qualities are required from a true “North tomato” ? does it grow in places with cool summers or in places where summers can be hot but very short with frosts late in spring and early at fall ? Some friends of mine try to grow tomatoes in the mountains (altitude about 4200 ft), they will be glad to benefit from your experience.
All the best |

That is a good question and one that remains to be answered once others grow my tomatoes. Up until then, the criteria I use is selecting the Best of what I have grown in my Northern (zone 3 originally) and now my PNW garden. Both very different but I am pleased to see that at least in these two zones these have done well so far.
I am hoping they will be widely adaptable but the first order of business was to breed a large fancy unique heart tomato that would produce in a shorter season garden It will be very interesting to see how they do The name I use on my FB page is Northern Gardener KarenO Last edited by KarenO; August 25, 2017 at 10:50 AM. |

Riper fruits will be pinker but they are good from this stage onwards as soon as some pink shows.
I will let some get really ripe to show you KarenO |

Love to see a vertical lengthwise slice too. I bet that pink center runs as a gorgeous internal stripe, like Captain Lucky has.(internal stripe, not pink color)

![]() When the time comes I will make a post about it or contact folks like yourself who I think would be interested based on previous interest expressed and encouragement received along the way. I need enough seeds first. I do have the green bicolour listed on the SSE because it has been looking stable since F3. I doubt I will see much interest there however.
