I have not posted in a while. Life has been pretty busy here on the farm..
So, I have a few pictures to share and update. Spring has sprung here in the Midwest. Our weather has fluctuated a lot. Snow and freezing temperatures one day, then, the next day can be in the seventies with all the snow melted. Typical. This past week has been lovely with temperatures in the high seventies and low eighties. This past weekend I planted a few rows of peas, carrots, beets and radish, from seed, in our garden. The garlic is up and looking good. We had a few days of snow and nights in the single digits, and, it did not hurt the garlic one bit. The hubby and I dared to plant a few row of potatoes.. yes, it is a bit early for us, but I had a few potatoes in storage that were setting roots/eyes, so we planted some German Butterball and Purple Viking. The raspberries are starting to leaf out, and the strawberries are looking good. Here is a picture of a "few" tomato seedlings. Some were started at the end of February.. I started around 57+ different varieties. I planned on just sowing a few this year, but my planning got away from me.. You know how that goes! Ginny Ginny |

More garlic planted out in raised beds last fall. Music. The bulbs started poking their heads up a few weeks back when the temperatures warmed up in the seventies. I took off the straw so the garlic could get some sunshine and green up..We have since then had about three days of snow and evenings in the single digits. The garlic was tough and came out pretty unscathed.

Rhubarb leaves coming up from the crown. I planted 4 crowns in the garden bed last spring. We added plenty of compost. My husband mistakenly rototilled over them last fall. This is the lone one that came back up. I planted 2 Victoria crowns that a friend gave me from her garden, and I planted 2 crowns of Cawood Delight that I purchased from our local County Extension Office plant sale. Right now, I have no idea which one this is. I will have to wait until the stalks start to color up before I can identify it. I also have a few crowns of an old farmhouse variety that I dug up from my parents old homestead. My husband and I love Rhubarb and I want to get a large bed established. I planted some crowns from Gurneys years ago, but they struggled in the old bed and never really took off..

French Thyme and Common Thyme. One of my favorite herbs to cook with. I put fresh thyme in many egg and soup dishes along with meats and pasta dishes etc.. I love the scent of the leaves..They are very easy to start from seed as long as the seeds are fresh. You can also layer the woody stems with soil to get more cuttings. I did not separate/divide my seedlings when they came up. I just let the thyme grow into a few plants..
