I couldn't help myself I plucked the first okra pod off today and ate it raw right out in the garden..
It was about 4 inches long tender and tasty.
Deemed fit for man and beast.

Today I saw the first okra bud opening. But not full open yet.
Just starting the fire work.

The area where the raised beds are was once a parking space for cars all along the side of a black top drive.
The strip of land between the drives was nothing but a barren waste land nothing green and as hard as a rock.
I filled in both sides with decomposed granite and soil.
For years all of my clippings have been swept into this strip of land.

Yesterday I hoed up a ten foot strip the width of my hoe and planted some rattlesnake pole beans.
The limestone road base is about 6 inches down.
We shall see what becomes of them.

Got home just in time for a wonderful afternoon thunder shower.
Smokey ran out side and ran back in when she heard the storm coming in.
She is now hunkered down under the table.
I'm on the front porch enjoying tbe storm and blessed rain.
The garden needed the real stuff.

Our garden needs it too.

If you ever have problems with Fusarium Wilt. We got home right before dark and I glanced at the cherry tomato garden - both Sweet Million plants have lots of yellow leaves that they didn't have yesterday. You know where I got the seeds and has nothing to do with them getting the wilt.

I found a sweet potato bloom, who gets a sweet potato bloom on June 1st it was there yesterday too but didn't see it so it was really May.
The Kentucky Wonder have climbed all the way to the top without blooming they are climbing and branching about 10 feet so far.
Now I am starting to see bloom buds show up.
I also found a baby watermelon.
I will try to pollinate it by hand.

I walked back out yesterday and a cucumber tendril had wrapped around the string in less than an hour.
Also I think they grew 6 inches yesterday.

This weekend I am going to have to spray something on the okra to kill the sharpshooters, they are causing blossom drop sucking on them.

This weekend I have decide to go against the rules of the Geneva convention and use chemical biological warfare against the evil sharp shooters.
Also going to attack from both sides and drop in troops in the rear and catch them in a pincers move.
If I win there wont be any one around to complain.
Also I am going to attack the main command center across the street because that is where I think the hatching and training grounds are in the tall weeds.
Battlefield updates as they come in.

Worth, what is your biochemical warfare ?
And what is sharpshooter ?

I finally found permatrine (?). Gotta do a round with that and Sevin.
And Daconil on the tomatoes. It will be a war zone in my garden.
That is a 3 prong attack.

Look up glassy winged sharpshooter.
Nasty things.
I think someone brought them to my neighborhood by way of a plant.

They are growing fast too.

I will be growing plants in containers soon, so I need to pay attention here.
