It is against the law to "grow" here due to the weevil w/o permission. I'm sure you are outside the weevil zone. Pictures look outstanding, very nice indeed. Sorry to hear about your mamma....

Purple Podded Blauwschokkers Pea. This is a beautiful ornamental pea with very lovely purple/mauve flowers and purple pods. Picked very young the peas are tender eaten raw out of the pod. Use the pods for stir fry when picked young, or, use as a shelling pea or use for soup pea when more mature on the vine.

Pea time is so brief in my climate. So sweet and delicious right out of the pods, few ever make it into the house . . .

Thank you, My Foot Smells.. Hard to believe it is against the law to grow cotton in Arkansas without permission! But, you must have a big problem with weevil and they need to protect the cotton crops etc.. No weevil problem here up North.

Swellcat, I love eating peas raw right out of the pod also.. I look forward to it every spring.

Ella, I first grew Purple Podded Blauwschokkers over 20 years ago. If I remember correctly, I purchased them from Cooks Garden. That is what they were called on the packet back then. I purchased the 2016 pack from Pinetree Seeds. They call them Blue Podded.. But, I still refer to them as Purple Podded.. Old habit is hard to break.. Beside that fact,they do look more purple to my eyes..

Here is another great heirloom variety from France: Carouby De Maussane Pea.. It is a beauty!! The flowers are two toned, and many of the pods were huge, 5-6 inches! Great in stir fries, and if you eat them raw, they are sweet and tender! Delicious!! Prolific plant, and does well in the heat.
