The spring warm season garden is starting to take off. Tomatoes, melons, cucumbers, and eggplants love this warm dry weather. Now it is just a game of beat the clock before the humidity, bugs, and extreme heat arrive. God Bless all of us Florida gardeners.

I tried Neves Azorean Red last year. No survivors. I think the rainy season got them.

I do not know if any of you have seen my latest threads and how difficult it is to grow out here. It is funny to hear them Northerners try to sum up and give advice to Southern growers. Bottom line is it takes a lot of timing and smarts to grow out here. This year I have another greenhouse since losing my big monster sized one to the hurricane of 04 that also took my home!! I have the ability now to grow the best of the heirlooms with no problems, I had 42 different types and only lost 2 plants out of 49 total. Hope you all are doing well this spring and we get some good crops before all hell breaks loose!! lol

P.S I am originally from Illinois and grew up there for 15 years before moving here in 1990. This has been a learning experience and takes time to master it.

Like they are so fond of saying in the Keys, "the rules are different here".

K-Marts in S Florida have Bonnie Tomato, and peppers on sale for $1.49. I picked up two Better Bush, two Celebrity, and a green & red pepper plant. The Better Bush in the 7 gallon pot grew 3" since Saturday

better to have a warranty like home depot has. I don't know where you live, but our season is about over and the only tomato I have seen to hold up in May is Solar fire or solar set and Bonnie has solar fire which is the latest of the heat resistant tomatoes. I am growing 4 of them that I started from seed in my lanai and they are in Earthboxes which are the light colored ones.

I'm about 3/4 the way between you and Garf. South side of Palm Beach County.

How are you growers growing? Not doing too bad here in Palm Beach County. Back when I was a kid up in N Tonawanda, NY, my Dad had a few tomato plants and would give them a shot of water with the hose every evening after dinner. When I do this, the little princess says I'm over watering. "I just want to know, who gets the deer, me, or the dog?"

Season is almost over in Miami. Temps are rising. Soon the rains will start. After that, forget it.

Hi, I have a question for you guys -

I'm located in Central Florida. I would like to start my plants from seeds this year, instead of buying seedlings, and was wondering typically, when do you start the seed germination, and roughly, when do you affix them outdoors for the early fall growing season?

Thanks for your help, and have a nice holiday!

The plants need to go out at the end of the rainy season. In Miami, that is usually early October. That may not apply in the Orlando area.
