Thank you so much Tormato for what you did, my tomato output personally has grown 3 fold and after starting seeds on tuesday night I already have half a dozen babies not only has this community coerced me into building more beds and trying container growing because of the swap it also has me sharing the vast bounty of seeds with guests at the hotel I run.
Just last night I was talking to a guest that is a master orchid grower, i showed her the list of seeds and her and her husband are coming back next week to partake in this bounty. Cheers! |

I'm posting an outline of categories for the next swap. Comments are welcome.
Beefsteak Black - could use more varieties than the fairly common ones usually sent in Blue - same comment as Black Cherry/Grape/Currant Determinate/Dwarf (mostly Dwarf Project)/Micro-Dwarf Eastern European Experimental - (non-commercial) F1's, F2's, etc... Giant - 3 lb+ potential, there may not be very many varieties sent in Green - same comment as Black Heart Hot Weather Italian - same comment as Black, or this may have to combined with the Paste/Canner category Knock-Your-Socks-Off Oldies But Goodies - older varieties that are rarely seen/talked about anymore Paste/Canner Pink Red Striped Very Early - 55 DTM or less Yellow/Gold/Orange/Bi-color/Tri-color/White and *Cool Weather - maybe not enough demand for a category *Novelty - maybe not enough varieties or demand for a category |

I'm like'n it!
I'm glad to see that your posting this for 2016 MMMM so that our newbies are aware of the swap in time to save their own seeds. Anticipation...... makes it so much more fun! (Just look at Imp and Ariel)

Tormato, would it make it an easier on you if we started sending seeds in earlier than swap time for you to organize? More work or easier on you?

I am raising several selections, small plant quantity from Tatiana, Starlight (Ella), Ginger (Marsha), Heavenly Seed i.e. Mike Watkins http://www.heavenlyseed.net/aboutus.asp
Many of the selections from Tania are of Russian and European origin, mainly, early, cherry and beefsteak. How much seed do you need or require from individual offering to contribute? Since my garden is in the high country of NC Zone 6, will not harvest any appreciable supply before late July. My offerings include: 0-33 Arkansas Traveler Atkinson Beefsteak Black Krim " Cherry Black Mountain Pink Blue Ridge Black Brandywine Red Bubjekosoko Cherokee Purple Cseresznye Alaku Delicious Fred Limbaugh Grandfather Ashlock Helsing ★★★★★★★★ Blues Hillbilly Homestead Isis Candy Knopka Klara Lil's Favorite Mikhalych Mountain Pride Rebel Yell Rutgers Sereginy Stump of the World Tel-Aviv Train Wes Will post a story later on how these plants have traveled over 1200 miles back and forth between NC and SC. Returned to the SC coast yesterday. Have one more trip north around May 12th to plant out most of my inventory. NC mountains expecting "Black Berry" Weather conditions later this week with lows getting in the mid-upper 30's... |

Oh no, there will be plenty of mystery to be had, that is for sure.
And, remember, a posted list may not be all that person is growing, LOL! Mischief afoot! Games to play! Fun to be had! |

I'm ridiculously excited about this mystery seed swap! I save seeds and swap with others in my community garden but the tomatoes we grow are mostly what can be found commonly and very few exotics. I hope I have some that other tomatovillians will want to try...

Typically, people send in 10 packs (5 seed minimum per pack) of a variety whether they are entering a category or are sending it in as a bonus. They might add a few additional packs of that variety if there are several requests for it on wish lists. So, a single variety (10 or a few more packs) would need 50 to about 100 seeds. For strictly wish lists, it's sending in 1 pack (5 seeds minimum) of a variety to match a request. If more than one participant requests a variety, it would be nice if more than one pack gets sent in. Then there are a very few people, knowing there are ~100 participants, who send in 100 packs of a single (usually "rare") variety. Overall, the "average" participant sends in about 100 total packs, about 60 specifically to enter categories and to match others wish lists, and about 40 as bonuses to be used as needed. But, there is no such thing as average. Some people send in 0 to just a few packs, many send in about 50, others ~100, and a few are in the 400-500 pack range. |

Pepper categories...
Sweet Paprika Mild Hot SUPERHOT I've added the Mild category, as last year several participants were looking for peppers with just mild heat. |

Tormato, Thanks for the update. I have copied and pasted your reply for reference. When convenient, provide a snail mail address to send my "Hoped For" Bounty.

Have you ever thought about a favorites category? It would be for people's very favorite that they grow.

I'll have to add that category. I think I'll have to call it (based on a few threads here at T'ville)...
"Your Desert Island Tomato" The one problem may be that some people's favorite may be a very common and available tomato, like Cherokee Purple for example. |
