Default Tomatoes

Overall 0-33, Bezrassadnyi, Glacier, and Sasha's Altai were the winners in AK in 2018. This is 0-33 that I have had for a couple of years. They grow very well in containers and do well in the ground too, every tomato ripened. I am interested in these early varieties for a few reasons.

Yesterday I started the season 2019. I have seeded the determinant varieties for the cold bed. Three weeks earlier than last year !!!!

Hi Vladimir,

Your plants look great. I see 8 cups with 4 plants in each, but I don't see that on your list. Are you mixing varieties in the same pot to save space?

On Monday the seedlings fell me out of the window sill. Some of them managed to save 22 out of 39. I have planted some varieties again, but the seeds Cold Set and the Mongolskyi karlik I do not have anymore. These cups were 11, only 8 were photographed. I have four cups divided into four separate compartments, so there is no problem growing four different varieties in one cup.

What a clever dividing system you have created! I'll have to remember that!

Vladimir, I'm sorry to hear about your seedlings. You can request Coldset and Mongolskyi Karlik seeds from the MMMM. Tormato might have some.

Today they look rescued like this. I hope that I will get seeds of three determinant varieties from Tormato, Silvery Fir Tree, Efimir and Forest Fire. I look forward to them. Likewise, I would not have a place in the cold bed for the tomato Cold Set.

AK Mark, those are good looking tomatoes in your October post. Last year I grew Matsu Express here in Indiana: they were early and produced all year but I thought a bit thick skinned. Can you think of another variety for early here in Indy with readily available seeds?
Thanks Pete

By the way, all of MrBig46's plants and toms look great! Glad you were able to recover what you did!

This year I will grow the early determinant tomatoes in the cold frame for the fourth year. Although I was satisfied last year with the harvest (mainly in June), I still see deficiencies and I am not 100% satisfied. I want the main harvest to move from the beginning of June to the middle of May. That's why I try to sow early, so that the plants should have flowers and small berries when planting. Seedlings also must not be more than 35 cm high for the low cold bed an 55 cm into a deep bed. So far, it looks that the sowing date of 1.11. for dwarfs (Mongolskyi karlik, Sarayev Shtambovyi, Betalux and Klusha) intended for the low cold bed is optimal. For the higher varieties (Sophie´s choice, Sarayev Gruntovyi, 0-33, atd.) it will be too early, but I sowed them 24.11. also.

This is what looks like today at the window - 54 tomato-determinant plants.
Vladimír
PS.: So far I do not know what to do with the bush tomato seeds which I got from Tormato. It's too late to put them into cold bed. Leave it for next year? Or this year grow them on the bed, comparing their DTM, their height and the way they grow, and then next year to grow in the cold bed only the best?

You may want to leave those varieties from the MMMM for next year. I have found MORE early determinate varieties to send to you. I'll PM you a list when I find them all.

You really sent me more determinant varieties. These are the ones I want to try. Of the other varieties, the seeds either already have or have already tried them (such as 46 days, Cold Set, Glacier, Czech Bush, ......), some tomatoes to me too small - rather for the balconies.
