I am getting Lot of tomatoes rotting in the house, just before they are perfectly ripe. We have been trying to cut back on AC to save money, and put the thermostat up to about 84 during the day, but I keep the tomatoes near the AC vent so when it is on it blows over them.

Salt, just picked a dozen shi shi toes and grilled. Only 2 were not HOT. The first batch were stressed, happened last year too and then they were all mild the rest of the summer.

Worth I wanted to get your opinion on black tomatoes that will grow/produce well in our Summer heat? (March - mid July) That BK was very good that we ate last night.

It would be nice if there are some that could live through late July and August here, but I doubt there's a such thing.

I finished watching that movie Chef, yesterday. Liked it too. Thanks for the suggestion.

sdambr, it seems like shi shi toes are like a gauge to show us how well we are growing them. Something to learn by.

I recently had a discussion with my psychologist about this exact thing. (She is a family friend - more like a second mother) Is it possible for you to use a 5,000 BTU window unit (AC) for one room? If so, it is best to cool your bedroom or wherever you sleep. Better sleep helps us all health-wise, and that helps us deal with the rest of the house being 84F. You could move those tomatoes into the Air Conditioned room.

In the past, we have only cooled half of the house to save on money. We kept our onions, tomatoes, and potatoes in the cooler part of the house so they would keep longer.

I asked my wife to look at the first paragraph and she added the second paragraph - she almost never writes anything online.

When i had that happening last fall, I made sauce and froze it. Didn't can it which would take longer, just put it in quart baggies and froze it. Well a lot of the time, it didn't make it to the freezer. We have lots of neighbors who love that sauce.

Worth, I looked through this whole thread and the one you mentioned in 2 Cents yesterday, and I just wanted to say that you are an awesome person, and more resilient than most. I love seeing the pictures from your garden and your plate. Keep em coming.

Thanks for the kind words.
I'll try to keep them coming.
Looks like I am in for another life changing event soon.
Every time I go to work it just gets worse.
It looks like this job will play out for me in September or sooner.
We are all tired of being scared of being fired for any little thing and I just can't deal with it anymore.
What kind of life is that anyway.

I've been in jobs like that and I know that feeling. Heck, right now our company is going through a "merger" (read: being purchased) and no one feels secure because they won't tell us anything other than blowing smoke up our rears. Do what you feel is best, it could lead to bigger and better things!

Worth, sometimes they do that so people would leave on their own. Or they give you 2 days of work per week. They do not won't to pay unemployment fees. Apparently, they have to pay something if they just lay people off. Stick around.

it has nothing to do with that but something else.

Will go into details when I get home.
