To those who wanted Sad Sac seeds--sorry I just got them out last night. I did not have the extra stamps to add to them and the post office machines were out.
I looked and looked for Minnie's advice but could not find it. I know it will turn up and I will give a brief synopsis here when I find it. It is very good--she talks about fertilizing and pruning off tomatoes. I got it from Totally Tomatoes for I think $1??? Definately worth it if you want to grow big ones as she is a master at it. Good luck with the Sad Sac seeds.

Minnie's pointers are:
1. Select the largest tomato on each of the top 3 or 4 tomato clusters per plant during the first week in July. 2. Take the rest of the tomatoes off each plant and also .... 3. Don't let anymore blossoms turn into fruit. She dedicates certain plants just for contests and makes sure that they get daily TLC. Her plants are staked with It stands to reason Keep the plant moist and mulch Pull all suckers off the plant Feed weekly with liquid plant food. |

Here are a couple of other Web pages that offer "growing tips" for big tomatoes:
http://www.njtomato.com/indice.htm http://www.bigpumpkins.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=82 http://www.njtomato.com/ Now I gotta get some Big Zac and Sad Sac seeds planted by Bark's moon chart this month or I'll never have a prayer in the grow-outs. PV |

I'm 0/2 so far with my SS germination after
13 days. Has me a little nervous. By the way Papa Vic. On that njtomato.com posting. The 1992 winner, John Samock, is a neighbor of my Mother-in-Law. He's recently moved back to New Brunswick after living in Somerville for some years. He's a very likable, hale and hearty, elderly gentleman of Hungarian extraction. I'll have to get together with him some time soon and talk tomatoes....JJ61 |

I'm 4/8 in 7 days after seeding, but the little guys are rather spindly due to spending too much time in the dark while I was at work. Oh well, that's easy to fix now that they are out and under lights.

1 of 2 Sad Saccers popped this morning. That's
a relief after two weeks. Now all of my 20 some first planted varieties are up. Time to turn my attention to some later planted stock and of course, "Aunt Hazel"....JJ61 |

I haven't chimed in here, because frankly I haven't started seeds yet. It's been so darn cold this spring...well, that's just one of my excuses.
Anyway, I went down to Trafficula, um, I mean Temecula to get some plants from ctomato (chris) and attend his 'tomato talk' at the nursery.** While there, I acquired some *secret ingredients* to put in the planting hole for my Sad Sac tomato. Since chris didn't get in on the SS seed giveaway, I shall raise a plant for him to have as well. Barb **I took notes. Among other things, chris admitted to picking his teeth with tomato hornworm horns and using MG and blossom set last year Enough malignment for now. |

Sorry to say Bully, but the Nut Bra won't load up
for me. Been trying for awhile but can't get the graphics. However, something tells me that this really will be a growout with a twist and a few kinks as well....JJ61 |

Bully ...
An "EYE OPENER" @ 8:43am for sure! The boys @ work are gonna lose it when I show them this!!! ~ Tom ps. All "Sad Sacs" are transplanted successfully into their new cups. (never again will I use peat btw) pss. I sold my 1st Sad Sac plant on Thurs.. She hardly spoke english, but I was finally able to convince her hubby to get $75.00 up for that seedling ... $70.00 for the plant ... $5.00 for the soil & cup ... Truely a vaule in itself ~ I told them this "Sad Sac" is gonna get bigger and stronger and produce "MONSTER MATERS" all summer long ~

I set up the outdoor coldframe about 2 weeks ago, it works just a touch too well frankly.... i melted a few seedlings.
Its been on and off weatherwise here. If its over 60, I take off the windows.... I love cheap technology! but yeah, ive got at least 1 Sac up myself. |
