Besides just the children, farmers hogs were very well fed with the trash can sized buckets of food that was left over from each school. That is against the rules today, as is the leftovers from restaurants. Too, behind every grocery store throws away a LOT of food that is past its date. Some food banks arrange to get a little bread, but most is thrown away. Most never makes it to be used for compost, much less to feed farm animals.

Pretty sad when school lunches are considered "unfit" for feeding to hogs. Makes you wonder long and hard just how bad the food system really is...........

It can be fed to hogs but you have to be licensed and the food has to be cooked.
Your farm also has to be inspected once a month to make sure you are doing the right thing.
The reason should be clear, it is to cut back on several really bad diseases that can spread throughout the industry.
