Default Peppers

The peppers are setting good in 12 inch hanging baskets, about any kind grows well in them.

AKmark, those are terrific looking peppers! Do you ever have trouble with aphids, or don't those little critters make it up that far north if you grow everything indoors from your own seed? It seems like any peppers I grow indoors are the first to be attacked by aphids, but then I assume mine come in from the surrounding area when my greenhouse is open. They only occasionally bother my in-ground plants during very dry spells so not really a problem outdoors. But inside is another story.

Aphids are the main reason they are in hanging baskets, they are up in the rafters away from the other plants. So far, this seems to work well, I have not had any aphid attacks on peppers since I began doing this, and the peppers also enjoy the heat up top too.

I don't have any pollination issues and take no extra measures to pollinate. I have circulating fans on all of the time, it helps with mold issues, as well as keeping the whole environment about the same temperature. I also have huge exhaust fans that click on when it gets above 80 in the greenhouse, so they cause alot of air movement.
The peppers are exploding with fruit, I counted around 50 banana peppers coming from one basket, watering is a daily chore now.

I use 2.5 gallon and 5 gallon grow bags for peppers, although I also have them in the ground.
Cilantro will probably bolt early unless you are very cool. I usually grow it fall/winter with basil in the summer.

AKmark: Could you post what kind of soil and fertilizer you use in the pot? I can't believe things can grow that big in a one gallon pot. My container gardening this year is a total failure. I grow one tomato or pepper in 4-5 gallon pot. I use Pro-mix BX/Compost mixed with bone meal , blood meal, green sand, seaweed, epsom salt, I even ordered Texas tomato food and feed them. The tomato looks healthy and grow to three feet tall but the fruits have BER, the pepper is one foot tall, not growing much. Actually I took most of the plants out yesterday and trans-planted in the ground. Don't know if these big plants can handle the shot.

I only use pro mix, I think all of the other additives are not needed if you use a good continuous feed fertilizer like TTF, Flora Nova, Pure Blend, even a diluted Miracle Grow will work.
I am very good at keeping my plants watered without drowning them, they detest being dry though, that is why you get BER.
Good luck, don't over think it, they are only plants.

Mark, how often is "continuous feed fertilizer?" Does that mean, whenever you water, you are there is fertilizer in it?

Yes, I water twice a day, they get fert. once. Every 5-6 days they will get straight water. I use this method on tomatoes and eggplant too, works great.

My jalapeno peppers are doing fine...but I notice a few fruits have some squiggly white lines on them. What is this???
