Here are some fresh photos of my veggie plot at Alajärvi, which is 120km inland from Vaasa, where we live. Our son took these with his small mobile phone controlled drone yesterday.
The old house in the photo belonged originally to my husband's grandparents and has been used just as storage for many years. Sari

Here is a link to a flight over the garlic bed. The quality is not good, since it is taken towards the sun shine.

While southern Europe was baking with heat, we had some cool weather and even nightly frost in low areas. There was not much ripening in the greenhouse, but now finally tomatoes are blushing and cucumbers are growing.

Thanks Dak, using black plastic in the vegetable garden is a really big help even the place still feels like labor camp, since we rarely have time to relax there.
My city garden is quite a mess, because I had to relocate flowers from the side of the house due to roofing work. I put all lilies in big tubs, where they luckily survived and are blooming. I should make a new bed for them away from the house, but that is still in the planning phase. I knew spring time that this summer I can not have so many flowers on window boxes by the house and balcony, so I tried selecting colorful veggies for my raised beds. Cabbage moths ate my red kale, but lettuce, fava beans and peas look great.

Those red flowered peas are gorgeous. I'm still waiting for flowers on mine, but we've only had two really warm days in a summer of cold ones.
I find it hard to enjoy temperatures or humidex in that 27-30 C range, especially when it's so far from other days... there's no chance for your body to get used to it, and that's the worst part. |

Bower, you probably noticed the colorful romaine lettuces. Those are from the seeds, which you sent me. That photo is taken in June and those ones will done soon, but I have new seedlings growing to be planted on the place where garlic is currently growing.
This summer I am growing two different kind of purple podded and red flowered peas. One is Blauwschokker and other one Shiraz.

Please send a little heat this way - so far in July we have not met the average high temperature 14 times, and the long term forecast is showing 6 more days below the average near the end of July. Earlier in the year we went 39 of 40 straight days where we did not meet the average high temperature. I don't have a single tomato plant over 2 feet tall yet, and the last date here where flowers have any chance of ripening fruit is the 1st week in August. Funny how world weather works - lots to understand still.
