thanks. I can understand a premix blend. you can also buy fuseables that are a mix of seeds clumped together and everything you need is in the pellet, too. You can just do a main color and a filler like bacopa. or a texture plant. skip the small or secondary flower unless it is a contrast instead, like purple calibrochia or verbena instead of a light color to blend. the other secret to a nice basket could be a tablespoon of soil moist.

Im curious myself on that.
As for myself, when I had the Wave baskets, which had nothing but Waves in them, I asked $15 or 2/$25. I was wanting to find something else to add to them, but it was the least of my concerns. |

I still charge 15 each for them. I want to sell them as fast as I can...not water/groom them for weeks on end. I have many people tell me its not enough, but I still find myself getting ahead at the end of the season. I may charge more this year...but not by much.
I try not to have much more than 3.00 on average in plant material in it also. that means I am growing a lot from seed, too. seeds are far cheaper than rooted cuttings but the cutting material has a much nicer selection of hybrid flowers which are ... nicer. bacopa for instance... what I buy for cuttings has a much nicer flower than what I start from seed.

Glad im not the only one who feels that way. The way I see it, the longer you have it, the more space it takes up, the more you have to deal with water, fertilizer, etc.

So, for you folks who are also selling the Dwarf plants, Zinnias and Sunflowers, etc.
Can I ask how much your selling for? In my mind, $3-$4 seems about right. I already have the cost figured out. These will be in a 5 inch Azalea Pot. I just want to get a general consensus. If you would care to share. |

I'll throw a couple varieties out there for you mkt. growers.
Zinnia Zahara, any color, nice full 14" mounding plant Petunia Dreams, burgundy is the only color I grow. Fills in a large area as well as any Wave. Lantana Bandito, orange sunrise, propogated by cuttings only. I take cuttings in late summer and keep them outdoors until Oct. Several dozen are in a very cool basement in a sunny window. Ready for 3 1/2 pots in a couple weeks. I don't sell, just for home use. |

So I called my supplier in VA today about the Mum Plugs.
I had to leave a message as the person in charge of plugs and such was out... I havent heard back yet. But thats ok. Still plenty of time. Meanwhile.. Against my better judgement I called NC Farms. Why they want to make everything so darn difficult I will never know. The lady on the phone was getting rather huffy puffy when I was trying to clarify a few points, that flys in the face of what their own website says. Needless to say, unless no other option exists, I will avoid them. Not to mention I dont need 400 plugs. 4 trays the minimum or 12 partial trays. If im forced to do mail order then I might seriously consider Raker. They sell their Mums in 51 strip trays for $35.50 each. That includes shipping! Minimum 4 trays. Drawback is the needed 6 week lead time. |

Of the 350 plugs I ordered from them, about half were snapped off near the base of the plant. Whoever packed them just smashed newspaper down on top of the cuttings, and stacked one box on top of the rest. It's almost like they knew that since it was the last shipment of the year, they didn't have to try.

Curious, did you at any point call them and speak directly to a person? Seems like both times I called, I was a real burden. Thats the feeling I got. I just wanted to clarify with the person: Minimum Order 4 Trays even with pickup? Does the partial tray count as 1 tray? Lead Time to pick an order? It was like I had to pull teeth to get a clear concise answer. |

Just to add to the above and to clarify about the "partial tray".
You actually cant buy a partial tray, which there website doesnt state that. I assumed (wrongly) that they would only fill the tray by 1/3. But no. To buy a tray, it has to be full. So, you buy 3 partial trays to fill 1 full tray. And yes, they charge more for that. Of course. But to get that explanation was nearly painful. Last edited by FourOaks; February 1, 2018 at 04:36 PM.
