1884 Purple by far was outproducer for us last year, followed by Indian stripe. Am trying this year among others Kiss the sky which reportedly better than Black Cherry.

That's good to know Lindalena, as I'm growing 1884 Purple this year!
I love Black Krim and Cherokee Purple and Black Early was tasty too, but Indian Stripe was a better producer for me. I'm growing some different Black Cherry seeds this year. I tried to like it, but didn't after growing it for 3 years, so I hope that it's just the seeds. I really liked the cherry, Carbon Copy last year! Linda |

The German Pink Egg I grew was like that. When it was pink, it was unspectacular. But let it ripen to more of a red color, and it was very good.

GROWTH HABIT: Indeterminate MATURITY: Mid to Late-season LEAF TYPE: Potato Leaf FRUIT CLASS: Beefsteak FRUIT SHAPE: Oblate FRUIT SIZE: Large FRUIT COLOR: Black USE: Slicing, Home-processing ORIGIN: Unknown All the plants I've got from her are excellent. At $4.50 a plant she is just too expensive. I usually go to Eastern Market in Detroit for the majority of my plants but last year the supplier I buy from was not there & I did not do as well as I would have liked. The greenhouse that is starting my more rare plants might be my new main supplier. At this point I need around 40-45 more plants! I plan to give a full updates here. This will be my fourth year with an extensive garden but I only stumbled across this site this year. -joe |

I agree, an exquisite flavor, production was not to much. I am given it another chance with bigger container.

Just A Question:
What is the difference between BLACK Cherry and BROWN Cherry ? I look at the picture on the net I honestly cannot tell the difference. I am growing one seen in this picture. Actually there are 3 of them . I bought the package from Trader Joe's called "heirloom cherries" |

Looks like Brown. The pictures on computer are not completely accurate.
P.S. I love Trader Joe's. Their Crumbly Gorgonzola Cheese is the best. The price is ridiculously low for Gorgonzola ($6.29 a pound). Even my DH, who is neutral to cheeses, loves it.

I find that it is quite difficult to locate seed venders for many of these lesser known black
varieties that you folks are recommending. Do any of you know of a vendor that specializes in blacks or even just lesser knowns. Even Tatiana hasn't listed some of these in her 'categories' WEB PAGE. ' |

The picture/ color is pretty accurate as I have taken it myself. Well, maybe it is called "Black" but really it is brown. In my opinion, there is no "black" tomato. Or I have yet to see one. Yeah. Their (TJ's) that blue cheese ($6.29 ?) is a bargain I keep a lot of it on hand. Some other crumbled ones sell for twice as much. Gardeneer |

OSU Blue is the closest in color to actual black that I have grown. It looks more black than blue to me, or at least the one plant I had.
