It's that time of year again, when we're all starting our seedlings, or close to it. I'm bumping this thread because it has good information about using fertilizers at this critical stage of growth.

thanks Mischka, I was just wondering which goodies i was going to drag up from the basement for seed starting again. I'll go through the thread first and see if there is anything I don't have, that I should. (Why is it that I always think I've got everything I need until I read a thread here on TV? LOL)

Do you a deluted the portion of the saltwater farms fertilizers for your seedlings? If so what ratio? Do you folar feed you seedlings or as a soil drench? Thanks in advance

1 tsp. per gallon of water is the recommended rate for Saltwater Farms liquid seaweeds, for foliar, seed treatment or as a drench. Only mix an appropriate amount for your immediate needs, don't let a diluted mixture sit around for a long period of time.

I moisten seed starter mix with the PGR solution ( 1 teaspoon per gallon) and sow the seeds on heat mats in trays with clear dome covers. As soon as the first seedlings emerge, I remove the covers to avoid damping off issues.

I keep the seedlings watered with PGR as needed. It's important that the starter mix is not kept constantly soggy, because over-watering at this stage will cause problems.

Once the seedlings have reached 3" tall, I turn on oscillating fans that are plugged into timers that can be set to turn on and off several times in a 24 hour period. The fans are on low speed and are far enough away so that the foliage slightly rustles with each pass of the fan sweep. This causes the seedlings to develop thick, sturdy stems.

Using the fan treatment also causes the growing medium to dry out quicker, but it's nothing too drastic. I also mist the plants weekly at this point with PGR solution as a foliar feed.

I do exactly the same thing. Air movement is crucial for indoor plants. From what I understand, as the seedling bends in the breeze, it causes very slight cell damage to the stem. The wind does the same thing to outdoor plants. The seedling then stops growing upward so it can repair that damage, and it ends up thicker and stronger.

To the OP

First off there is a right time to use each product.
I see a lot of people toss out Seastart pgr when talking about liquid seaweed/fish.
Its not the same don't confuse the two.

SeaStart begins with a true liquid seaweed extract that has been condensed to a level many times more powerful than our regular extract. To this we add Vitamin B1, B2, B5, B6, Vitamin C, Folic Acid, Biotin and Pantothenic Acid.

This is used mainly on Starting plants not all the way through maturity.

I use Neptunes Harvest liquid Fish/Seaweed. Starting on plants that have their true leaves till full maturity. Why? because I see a difference between plants with it and without it and I can make 640 gallons of fert for 143 bucks free shipping.
