I'm at Lake San Marcos. But I grew up off Telegraph Canyon Road in the sixties when it was all canyons and meadows. It's usually a little cooler here, I'm assuming because of the lake. To be honest I think the lake is rather ugly and dirty looking. Much ado about nothing. What's RGGS?

That lake needs more movement, aeration, something...it's a bit stagnant.

RGGS. Rain Gutter Grow System. Continuous water via a large PVC tube underneath the containers. Saves water and nutrients. Or at least I hope it will.

Telegraph Canyon...must have been nice. Hillsides. Wildlife.

I remember going out the back gate into Fallbrook.
The road now is called ammunition road.
It that time you would drive past the biggest pile of explosives you ever saw and from looking on the map the bunkers are still there.
You went through a gate inside Pendleton and took a number.
You couldn't pass you had a certain amount of time to get through to the other gate.
If you drove too fast they knew it.
No smoking and you couldn't play the radio.
You get to the other side to go into Fallbrook you gave the number back.

But once you got out it was a really nice place we used to go there all of the time.
Are there any Avacodo trees left?
I bet it has really grown up since the 70's

I have a Fallbrook story. Back in my high school days, we played them as our initial game in the Basketball postseason. They were ranked a lot higher than us, and they should have just run us over given they had Duke-level recruits, but our scrappy team of Filipinos, Mexicans, and Blacks from the South Bay gave 'em a hard time and they didn't get away from us until the very end. Hard play, hard fought, everyone goes away happy, or so we thought.
Fast forward to us exiting the locker room. To make it to the bus we had to walk a gauntlet of sorts, with a large crowd behind a wire fence screaming, throwing things, and in general just being racist and crazy, in a testosterone driven fury.
I've been to a lot of dangerous places and in situations that were not conducive to wellness, but I've never felt as unsafe as I did next to that racist crowd hurling every insult and derogatory term available to them, pelting us with whatever was at hand.
This was a few years after the skinheads had their moment of glory on the Geraldo Rivera Show, and when Metzger was at the height of his abilities, based in Fallbrook.
From that experience I learned that people in groups are dangerous, irrespective of race, color, or creed. That hate and fear are very contagious in a crowd, and that whackos come in all flavors and vestments.
I haven't returned to Fallbrook since, although I've driven through it a few times. It seems the avocado trees are still there.

A very good Black friend of mine was in the Arny Band in Fort Hood Texas.
They were invited to play at the basketball game or something in Hico Texas in the 70's.
There were signs up at the bathrooms no coloreds allowed or something.
They ignored the signs and a small riot broke out.
They were asked to never come back.

I guess I'm stupid or something I dont get how people can hate other people because of where they come from or who they are.
I had no idea Fallbrook was like that even though I have heard about all of this I just didn't put two and two together.

I had a friend from East LA in the Marines.
He told me I didn't have the huevos to go to his sisters Quinceañera.
Lets roll I said and off we went in his low rider to East LA, he kept telling me I was going to get the devil beat out of me.

I had a great time.

Hi Gerardo thanks for sharing beautiful pix. Tomato pie looks to die for!!! and boy is pretty cute too. I grew up in San Diego and my sister just came North to where we are now a few years ago. It seems to us that San Diego has a good deal more humidity than it did WAY back when. We grew up in an around Pacific Beach then lived in Clairemont area maybe 3-5 miles off the coast for probably 20+ years. In any event, yes we are certainly all looking forward to a WET winter. Where I live now in inland Riverside County has been REALLY hot past several years how I miss that San Diego climate!
