Any idea what this is. It's on some romain lettuce.

Some insects are very beneficial for garden such as Ladybug, Praying Mantis, Spiders, Ground Beetles, Aphid Midges, Braconid Wasp etc. so, keep them in the garden.

I've got REALLY tiny brown ants on the pots of my tomato seedlings, indoors under lights. I do not see them digging in the dirt, and I seldom see them actually on the plants. The seedlings look very healthy, no bites taken out of them, good shade of green, etc. What are they eating?

I have an ongoing battle with fungus gnats, although I'm winning that battle now & only see a stray gnat now & again. I use Gnatrol periodically.

My soil is Master Gardener Bumper Crop Organic Gardener's Gold Potting Soil, to which I added time-release Osmocote 15-15-15 and finely-ground eggshell. I cooked the soil before use.

Ants don't cause harm themselves, but usually if you see them they are bringing aphids.

I think it's a borer of some kind. Foe.

Might it be beneficial to put out ant killer as a precaution? Is there any chance the ants are good for the plants?

Are you using mosquito bits? They take care of fungal gnats.

I always use mosquito bits, and they do not stop the gnats completely. I've had very bad infestations that only succumbed to Gnatrol.

Ah. I keep hearing good things to gnatrol. Sounds pretty effective. I'll probably have to try some in the greenhouse next time.
