As mentioned above, this is where the first Atlantic salmon and brown trout eggs that arrived in this country were hatched. A very interesting place with Brown, Rainbow, albino Rainbow, Brook and Tiger trout plus Atlantic Salmon in ponds for feeding and display. Not able to get good fish photos on phone but wife thinks she got some good ones on her camera.

Area was also set up as an arboretum, with Huon Pine and a Medlar amongst the trees planted.

It is still a functional hatchery, producing over one million fish a year.

A good museum is on site also.

We were planning on going on a glassbottom boat in Bicheno but the weather caused a cancellation, as a result we to another animal sanctuary called Eastcoast Natureworld.

aside from Devils, they have two Quolls, the Spot tail and Eastern (shown), which is the smaller of the two, Sugar gliders, a Magpie goose (plus plenty of Cape Baron Geese walking around), common Wombat, the Tasmanian Native Hen, some Tiger Snakes, Southern Brown Bandicoot, echidnas (they love their insect smoothies), and Blotched Blue tongue lizards (baby's about a month old on display)

Before we left Bicheno yesterday, we went on the glass bottom boat in a small area known as the Gulch. There is a school of yellow eyed mullet that are almost pets of the boat and the operator feeds them to allow him to get the boat away from them. Lots of banded morning, Blue throat wrasse and goat fish down deep, will post photos later if any good ones on the camera.

Yes a Tasmanian Tiger Snake, 4th most deadly in the world

If that thing were seen in the US it would be mistaken for a common non poisonous Black snake.

No non poisonous Snakes where these occur and they tend to be all black rather than clearly striped as the ones around home are to help with heat absorption

First stop today was Seahorse World, the worlds first and only seahorse farm. Originally set up to replace the wild harvest of seahorses for the traditional medicine trade it now supplies aquariums around the world. They produce about 25000 seahorses annually. There are tanks of all sizes from day olds to mature breeders, plus an aquarium with some special species on display.

second stop was Platypus House where platypus and echidnas are on display. Male platypus are venomous and can inject upto 100 ml of venom, which can vary in its toxic nature between individuals, making an anti-venin unable to be produced at this point in time. This venom is capable of killing humans. One male and three females are on display.

On the Echidna side, the have one female and two males, all unable to be released to the wild due to injury. They are finding echidnas have an intellectual level similar to dogs, with one in particular liking to problem solve.

The facilities are located in old warehouses on docks in the Tamar River
