I've taken bits of the weed shield I cover my garden area with and lined the bottom of my containers with it. Less loss of growing medium through the holes as the water drains out of the containers.

For foliar disease I have had good results with Actinovate and Exel LG which are contact and systemic fungicides and are Bio and Bio-friendly products. But in your area down in Florida with high humidity Daconil which is a protectant which covers the leaves and keeps the bad guys from entering the plant is the most effective. It's not bio but can be applied up to last the day of harvest. The key word here is you have to be proactive in applying these products as you have been with your insecticide applications.

The nursery recommended that I soak my plants in actinovate and spray them every two weeks. Do you use this and/or Excel LG?

Sorry, but why are you using a Daconil if you were wanting to go organic? That is way out the other side. Daconil is Chlorothianil. It is banned in most places around the world as it is a proven cancer causing agent.

If you want to spray anything for disease then use a copper product like Cueva. It is available to consumers from Bonide - Liquid Copper.

If you were commercial I would recommend Quadris. It is a reduced risk synthetic. Daconil is NOT something I as a commercial grower would use on my crops, ever.

As an aside, when Daconil breaks down in nature it produces dioxins and hexachlorobenzene, a persistent organic pollutant banned under the Stockholm Convention.

Just started using a product from Garden Safe. It is an all-in-one with insecticide, fungicide and miticide. gardensafe1.JPG
