Thanks, Marsha. It's cool that your hubby helps you with it. My hubby actually made my DIY 5 gallon SIC's for me, but I think making cages might be a little too DIY for us. Thankfully, my containers are on the deck, so I overlap the conical cages with the edges over the railing and then tie them in place. I do like that they can stack inside each other for winter, too.

Your plants look mighty happy in their Earthboxes!

Texas Tomato Cages are cheaper, larger, fold flat for storage, and weigh less than 15 lbs.
Yeah, that is awfully pricy. I got some really decent quality, American made ones from Menards for less than five bucks. Not as heavy, but they are nice.

The Texas Tomato Cages look great, although I don't think they'd work with my containers. Unless I get some REALLY BIG ones!!

Those at HD, is made in the US of A ( somewhere in MN). They are 6 ft.
How tall is standard TTC ? 4 feet ? ( not with extension)
TTC are made in Maxico, I think.

They are 6 feet tall and come in two sections.
You can add a 2 foot section to get 8 feet out of them.
I have had them stacked up to 10 feet before.
I have 36 Texas tomato cages and 50 of the stackable smaller cone type cages for peppers and smaller tomatoes.
For a total of 86 cages.
Yes they are now made in Mexico.
We live in a global economy and have been since the beginning of our country.
As long as the product is up to snuff I dont care where it comes from.

I t-post mine, so only poke ground prong 2". Wish they came 4' x 2 and then extension. Almost all tomato plants go 8' around here and depending 10' is common.

hencho e mexico? IDNKT

I ordered some burpee "heavy duty" cages on a free shipping whim when ordering some seeds. Not even comparable.

I like mike723 crimping on the cattle panel - those were very nice.

But the ease of slapping on another TTC extension or a whole nother cage to get 12' is apple pie. If there is a better cage, I am not privy. I too use those small coated cone cages for peppers, etc.... but tomato plants make a mockery of those in less than a month.

I got fam down in San Antonio and maybe it is cheaper to pick them up at the factory? Has anybody done that and is the price different?

200?!?! Considering it takes me about 4 hours to treat 30 plants with a foliar spray - GOD bless ya! haha.. It'd be wonderful to be able to manage so many plants, but with a
50-60hr a week job it's hard enough with the 30.. Perhaps it's something to look forward to when I retire lol . .

Just one year well maybe two.

Never again, it took the fun out of tomatoes.

The 50 cages I got on sale so I bought a pile of them.
Back when I bought the Texas Tomato Cages I got them for $99.00 for a six pack.

I only have about 12 plants a year now.
I dont care for processed tomatoes enough to grow more than that.
When I was a kid I got burned out on tomatoes.
My mother had tomatoes almost every day winter and summer.

Anybody ever try double caging tomatoes, start with a smaller diameter cage then a larger diameter to prevent having to tie or thread the vines?

Yea, in theory it sounds good, until you need to get to the plants to prune and it's a nightmare lol.. I actually enjoy threading the vines, it's like a challenge to see just how far you can go without the dreaded SNAP haha

I guess expense is in the mind of the buyer. I looked at making PVC stands and found that by the time I added up the cost of the PVC pipes, T-connectors, etc., $27 per unit for the TTC's didn't sound so expensive after all. I got mine this year (6-24" and 6-20"). Since they fold up and are galvanized they should last for quite some time so amortization looks good.
