I just had an idea for cheap containers......2 used tires stacked....you could paint the tread!

Looks like i'm not the only one... http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles2/sanders98.html

LOL and they paint them http://www.thegreenestdollar.com/200...n-your-garden/

Or $10 plastic pools.... http://www.technologyforthepoor.com/...ure/Garden.htm

Sherry, yes, my first visit! Kinda crazy since Alaska is practically my neighbor and I have visited about 35 countries! it is one of the few states I haven't been to and I am sooo looking forward to seeing the Kenai P.!

Dice, yeah, dwarfs are what I will grow in them. I have a very strict HOA so they wouldn't take too kindly to me putting a raised bed up in the grass strip between the street and the sidwalk in the sunniest part of my yard!

Harleysilo, not really so much of a quandry any longer since it seems growing in black pots isn't a problem, even for people in sunny and hot California!

Nice plants, Vince! I don't think I planted any PL varieties but I sure love the way they look!! Next year...

Cheers!

pdx -- I hope you have a good tomato-sitter for your trip in June! The Kenai Peninsula is beautiful. I hope you have a great trip!

I am growing Tiny Tim 10-16" dwarf in about three gallon containers (6" and 8" diameter). I noticed the larger pots have larger, healthier plants and do not dry out as often as the smaller ones. I'd say go for the five gallon pots for some reasons listed above and experience. The biggest you can reasonably find the better. I do still have two of the same plants growing in a 3" diameter pot and they are not doing well and dry out every day.
