At least in Texas we know we will face the summer temps every year. We all have air conditioners and can survive. Many, many folks in the northern states don't expect hot weather. An open window and a fan usually work well to cool a home. Not this year. When it is 100 degrees in Ontario, and Chicago, and New York; some folks are really suffering because they have no way to deal with the high temps.

I've lived in hot Texas summers for so many years that I really don't think about it. I know that every year in July and August I will do all my work in the early morning and late evening. The remainder of the day is spent under air conditioning. I did stop watering my lawn today. I can't apply enough water to keep it from drying out and turning brown. Now it will be an experiment to see which plants in my flower beds return to life from dead brown when we finally get some rain and cooler weather.

So - Tomatopalooza day - 7:30 AM - just got done picking and watering....81 degrees, 76% humidity - heat index 86.

Maybe we should have had a Sunrise Tomatopalooza event!

Tomato status - still uncooked. See me at about 4 for the sauce update!

Hmmmm, 8:00 a.m. and eighty six degrees. I just put a couple of pork shoulders in the smoker. They probably would have worked as well just sitting in the sun for twelve hours. I saw a guy cook a steak on his dash board for four hours on television. It cooked it medium well. Now I only need to plant some cucumber seed in the garden and change oil in the lawn mower. After that, I will sit in my air conditioned home waiting for the cooler air of evening.

I guess this is like tweeting, but I don't really know since I've never tweeted.

New Hampshire...97 degrees Thursday, 100 degrees yesterday...it is SUPPOSED to hit 95 degrees today, before backing off into the upper 70's and low 80's for the upcoming week, but we had a good soaking from some thundershowers around dawn (awesome!) and it is still cloudy and 72 at 10:30...it was 92 at this time yesterday. I'd be real happy if it only made it up to 90 or so today. I HATE wearing the five-pound shirt Craig was referencing...YUK!!! All plants seem to be fine, though...

If I hate wearing the 5 pound shirt, Sue certainly hates washing it!

This is a bit like Twitter! 10:30 - time to Tomatopalooza, T minus 90 minutes and counting. Currently 91 degrees, dew point 75, heat index 102. What fun! when it is so hot outside, it is easy to be productive inside - I sieved all of my fermenting seed yesterday/today (I am giving the seed 2 days MAX to ferment in this heat!). My stack of paper plates is over 12 inches tall!
