Troad, I didn't see your post in general discussion, but to RSG I was very unhappy with the use of coir which I purchased last year at Menards. The roots got all tangled up on the medium and I don't think they did as well as Pro-Mix or their counterparts. Maybe a side by side would be best for you, RSG, before staking your whole season on something new.

CB Louie, that looks just like SFT did when I grew it, boy I loved those plants, so delicate and pretty looking! Oh well, maybe I'll manage to get some seeds of it again sometime and try it for next winter's indoor grow!

Moshou, I like those numbers and especially the Danko one since those were 2007 seeds, but I think I did send more of the 2007 seeds since I think I wrote on the coin envelope, enough to double sow.

But if you sowed only 4 seeds and got 3/4 that pleases me wonderfully.

Thanks.

Here are my results so far. I sowed all the seeds on March the 4th, no treatment was used on the seeds.

Green Zebra Cherry(2009): 4/5 in 4 days
Angora Orange(2010): 2/6 in 5 days (only one is hairy)
Orange Minsk(2008): 7/9 in 5 days
Fish Lake Oxheart(2011): 5/5 in 5 days

These two varieties were sown on March the 6th so I'm sure there will be more sprouts...
Blush(2011): 1/4 in 6 days (first sprout today)

Added another variety I forgot:
Kenosha Paste(2010): 1/5 in 6 days (first sprout yesterday)

Kukla's Portuguese Heart (2011): 1 of 3 germinated
Fish Lake Oxheart (2011): 3 of 3 germinated
Ludmilla's Pink Heart (2008): 3 of 3 germinated
Joe's Pink Oxheart (2011): 2 of 3 germinated
Vince's P1 F5 (2011): 3 of 3 germinated

I always save back at least 2 seeds from each pack in case of disaster. I plan to grow the other 2 seeds of Joe's Pink Oxheart this fall to increase the amount of seed to send to Carolyn. Will also grow out the rest of the seeds of Vince's P1.

Thought I'd let Carolyn know that of the 3 seeds of Fish Lake Oxheart sewn, the first one is up with full cotyledons after only 56 hours. This makes it the second fastest for me (at least in my memory). I had one Maiden's Gold up in 44 hours back in 1987. This year, right after sewing the seeds, I gave each cell in the flats a spritz of "Nitrogen Only" Fertilizer. It seems to have made a mearureable difference over a test flat that did not get sprayed and contains a cross section of the same seeds.

I'll post the final results for Fish Lake Oxheart and Terhune in a few days.

Sounds good to me Marko and same to many of you who have posted most recently.

Now I think many of you should know why I like to see the germination results, not just so I know if there's a problem, but also if others did not get good germination with some of the varieties posted about that the problem may rest in their seed starting methods.

So, maybe 30 or so more results to look for before the reports start coming from those of us in the tundra who don't start seeds until around April 1st or so.

Green Thumb, thanks for your suggestion about not putting all my eggs, so to speak, in the coir basket since I haven't tried that before. Makes sense.

Casino - 6 seeds started 3/11/12, all six up as of 3/16/11.

(I also started 3 Terhune seeds and will post results once they appear. It's still early so not concerned yet!)

Before I forget, I thought I should post my results after 9 days:

Fish Lake Oxheart 4/5 germinated
Granny's Heart 2/5 germinated
Heshpole 0/5 germinated

I've still had a few stragglers pop up every day, so if the counts change I'll post an update.

A few weeks after germination, I thinned my Hays seedlings down to one plant. This plant is not getting any size to it compared to all of my other seedlings. It has seen the same conditions as all the other seedlings as well. It looks healthy. It is just very small. Thoughts?
