Tam, I'm got some plants that seem to be like those that others have described- small plants with fruits of Sungold size but with a bit of a pointed end on some, others more round- but I also have one plant that's much taller and has larger fruits. It's too early to tell how large they'll get but they've already passed large cherry size and are firmly in saladette-ville.
I think they're F5. kath |

Thanks Kath. I have 4 plants in 2 different locations, will be very interesting. The two right down the road both look pretty much the same (as in my photo). The other two were somewhat behind, they're at a friend's house, I'll have to check soon and see if they have any fruit.

I got my first ripe ones - maybe bigger than intended, but a perfect size to me. The one on the left was a bit overripe, the one on the right just about correct.
Not sure what I think about the taste - it was a bit zippy. So far, I preferred my black cherry. But this is the first fruit, so we'll see as the season goes on.

Has anyone else tasted these things yet? So far, I'm not thrilled unfortunately. Nothing like sungold - kind of sour actually. But that's only the first few, I'm still hopeful.

We'll see. I've only had a couple, and our weather has been awful, so hopefully that's it.

Well, I have some that are starting to turn ripe now. I can't tell yet what color they are going to be. But they are definitely in the same size range as Black Cherry (which, by the way, seem larger than usual. I just picked the first 9 of them but am waiting a few days till they get much darker before tasting them. I usually find the first few BCs are not as tasty as the ones that are harvested a little later on, and that it's best to be patient once they start ripening.

Mine are a little bit larger than my black cherries. I had one today that tasted better, I think perhaps my other ones weren't quite ripe enough.
They do split like Sungolds I noticed - we (finally!) had some rain and a few of them split.

Today I received an e-mail from Reinhard Kraft with pictures of his earliest ripening ones and one was VinceP1 since had chosen that off a list I'd sent to him. Next to it he had Sungold F1 and it was very clear that the Vince P1 was larger, not much, but larger than SungoldF1.
REinhard had told me how expensive Sungold F1 seeds are in Germany so I sent him a couple of packs of them. And he has more experience than anyone Iknow with Sungold F1 in terms of his Sugold Select and Sungold Select ll OP ones. He's heavily into the blue stuff and has some pictures of those, he's made all sorts of crosses but I have to tell you that the blue ones, in any form just don't turn me on at all. The only one I've grown is OSU P20, which most have and are using in their crosses and once was enough for that one.

I am also growing Ambrosia, which is another Sungold experimental variety from Carolyn's offer this year. The first ones are starting to ripen and their size is small like Sungold. They're not far enough along to tell the color but I will report and show pix at the appropriate time.

Still green here. Several clusters have some that are the size of black cherries. My sungolds are just starting to turn. Both have only been in the ground for 48 days though. I'm just getting impatient and forgetting that this year was so strange it feels like I'm behind when I'm really not!
