I harvested my first Siberian Pink Honey two days ago. It was delicious! Meaty and I don't recall a single seed in it.

The plants, however, have struggled in the Ohio heat and drought this year. I started with six plants and am down to three.

Mike, I am sorry I have no info about Russian Queen, but I got some seeds from a friend in Germany, and she gave it a very favorable taste review. Thank you for correcting the name, and appreciate it so much and I think there will be much less confusion (well, other than misspelling the 'difficult' Russian name of course! )

Edited to add:
I also wanted to mention that many times the 'foreign' folks are trying to be very helpful in seed exchanges and provide some translation of the native names into English - I think this is how lots of the translated names appeared at Baker Creek (I know the person who sent them seeds for many Russian varieties, and he tried his best to provide translated names). Whenever I have a chance, I am trying my best to encourage folks to keep the original names to avoid future confusion, sometimes it works, and sometimes... well, not yet.

Default Siberian seed? from ohioheirloomseeds too

My Siberians are large as promised by ohioheirloomseeds although not as early.
The largest to date weighed 2lb 1oz. I watered once a week (due to the hot dry weather) with a soak hose which may be be the reason I have not had any variety I have really liked.. All varieties have been good sized though... Maybe now that we have had rain things will settle down.

Great looking tomato? When did yours go in the ground, Sibpnktom?

Mine are finally getting small tomatoes on them!

Tania, about Russian Queen.

In posts 29 and 30 in this thread I posted about it, have grown it, and gave some background info for it as well. Offered seeds for it in my most recent seed offer here at Tville in January.

About Russian Queen. I got my seeds from Reinhard Kraft in 2010, we always exchange seeds, and here it is on his 2010 growout list, last one down:

http://tomaten.bplaced.net/Tomatenfotos/anbau-2010.htm

I grew it as did Craig who had an extra plant from the ones he raised for me. Yes, the plant is huge, yes it's a tomato machine, but neither Craig nor I could stand the taste of it, so I never SSE listed it and never offered it in my seed offer here either, I just checked that 2011 seed offer to be sure.

I think Reinhard may have been the original source for it but Manfred Hahm may have it on his list and Geza may have gotten it and if Manfred had it one his list them for sure others in Europe might have gotten it as well.

Where did you get your seeds from?

Since I had no intentions of listing it after tasting it I never asked Reinhard any background info on it, but he usually mentions a country, a person, etc., and none of that happened. What he does say is neuheit, which means a novelty variety and knowing him that doesn't speak to good taste, I don't think.

But, some folks do like a very aggress8ive taste, so there you are, I don't, and what I don't like and have strong feelings about that I don't SSE list nor do I offer it in my seed offer here. At least I don't think I have.

I just Googled it and found a page from Craig's blog where he said he liked the taste, which is not what I remember:

http://nctomatoman.weebly.com/1/cate...harvest/1.html

I guess I'm the friend he referred to since I sent him the seeds.

Just one other Google link to Tville where Craig said his Russian Queen plant was struggling.

For all I know I could still have some Russian Queen seeds back there but maybe not b'c a lingering memory says that Craig saved some seeds as well, and may have sent some up to me. I'd have to check.

I don't know who was doing the major seed production for it, it wouldn't have been Craig or myself, but I'd have to check that out as well.

So yes, a huge indet plant, very vigorous, red with gold stripes on the fruits, on the small side, RL and see how you like the taste when they ripen up/

I also checked Ventmarin in France but he doesn't have it listed. Not a seed source, just a very comprehensive listing of varieties for thousands of varieties, most with pictures and histories where available. And mostly correct.
Thanks a million, Carolyn!

I received my seeds from a friend in Germany who got them from Reinhard too. We harvested our first ones the night before last and had a little taste test. My wife thought they were "very good" and I would say they were "good". I'm not sure they were completely ripe yet- I just had to have a taste.

I'm having some friends over to taste-test my 15+/- new varieties in about a week, so I'll let you know the verdict. I will say this though, beautiful fruit and vigorous plants.

Thanks, Tania. I prefer the original names too.

I'll send you a picture of the Russian Queen once I find my camera.

Mike, unless your German friend is a close friend of Reinhard, which may be true, perhaps he got the seeds from Manfred Hahm, who sells seeds of Reinhard's webpage and does so for many of the varieties that Reinhard grows out each year. Since Reinhard doesn't in general send seeds to others as far as I know. Well, there are a few exceptions for some of the crosses he's been working on but we won't go there.

You said you'd send Tania a picture of Russian Queen, but I already showed a picture of it when I linked to Reinhards growouts in a post above that showed Russian Queen as the last one in that link.

By all means let me know what the folks you have gathered think of the taste b'c I'm still standing behind what I said about it.

Default ohio heirloom seeds

I am growing the honey pinks two, i think about 10 plants. My markers faded off so I dont know whats what. I planted outside the end of the first week in may . judgeing by the tomato shapes , I have got honey pinks ,cherokee purple, russian purple and choclate cherrys so far. I have never grown tomatos from seed before and im having the best year ever. I quit removing suckers early on because they were growing so fast I could see they would reach the top of my 6 ft stakes in june. I think the honey pink is one that is hard to keep tied up. The weater has been good this year but we need rain bad, thats my yard under that basket. love to see pics of your garden .

Carolyn,

They definitely came from Reinhard, but I not sure about the chain. I intend to get in contact with him as I like the Russian Queen very much. It definitely has an unusual taste.

Yes, that was a very nice picture, but I didn't see one on Tania's page. I have a nice one that I intend to send to her.

Thanks Again,
Mke
