The High Yield Garden is 8-10-8 that I am also trialing.

Are you applying the same amount (can't recall off hand, 2-3 cups) of this stuff as you were of Tomato Tone?

Riceloft,

I am applying 3 cups of product in each fertilizer strip.

Shoot, looks like iV'e been doing it wrong all this time! I put the fertilizer down in strips on the outside edges of the tainer, not right down the middle. Whew, just in time to do it right this year!

Dewayne,

Putting down the strip along the outside was my old recommendation. I think putting it across the center will prolong its useful life. Think about a log burning in a fire versus the same mass of wood chips just thrown into the fire. The goal is to have the center of the fertilizer strip last as long as possible.

Earthbox which is a smaller SWC that I use reccomends 2 cups of synthetic ferts or 3 cups of organics. Some but not all EB growers use less synthetic if they are using 10-10-10 or 13-13-13.

Linda,

The EarthTainer holds almost twice as much Grow Media as compared to the EarthBox therefore I think increasing the Fertilizer strip to 3 cups is in relative proportion to what they recommend.

I think this is a good quantity for the "old" tomato-tone (4-7-10) as well as the Fertilome and High Yield Garden which are 7-22-8, and 8-10-8.

I agree Ray and I know yours are much bigger. Anyone who has used 3 cups of the "new" Tomato Tone in either and EB or ET surely knows it is inadaquate!

EBs recomendations are a good referrance and I posted so folks could see they suggest different amounts based on synthetic or organic ferts. EB brand synthetic is 7-7-7. Cant remember what their organic is but I can tell you it worked A LOT better than the new TT.
