I really like it!
PS Did you know there is no need to till for those cantelopes first? Just maybe go 6 layers instead of 4 and it should work fine. Anyway looks great!

Yeah, I tilled that just to knock the grass down. I am still waiting for more wood chips. Its been to wet for me to get the the pile the city has.
Anyway, here I go... Chargers on my "Tomato Table" For some reason this one passed away... A picture of the right side of the garden. From left to right, Chargers, Red Rocket, Ace, Homested, First prize, BHN 640 and BHN 589 (i think that was the number) Another picture of that side A picture of my Red Rockets. Very bushy! This little thing is only about 20"s tall A couple nice sized ones. ( I sprayed for blight yesterday, thats what the spots are) I am not sure whats going on in the left side, The dont near as much sun I guess. I checked yesterday and the get about 6 hours of sun, where as the other side gets it just about all day. Green beans are coming along A nice cluster The "center" of the garden. Heidi, Rutgers, Sioux, Celebrity and a couple others I cant remember at this point. I got 4 plants up by my house. They are seeds from the orange crossbred I had last year. Trying to keep the seeds "pure" Yes I know get rid of the weeds around it...

Glad to see you post pictures again.
This fall you can till in the wood chips and nitrogen so they will brake down. I suspect that is where much of you nitrogen is going now. You should have a nice mushroom crop if it rains. Everything looks good. Worth |

Great thread. Amazing how many tricks a guy can learn just by looking at garden pictures/setups from other people.

Great lookin' setup Maddawg. +1 on the end rolls. Wood chips, if you can avoid too much pine, are the way to go. I love the greenhouse and I'll be spoiling for new project or two between now and Christmas, so just maybe....

Worth... you got me to thinkin????? Do you think the fresh wood, not aged, that i have on my right side is my problem? Last year on that side by this point they were looking great! here are a couple pictures from June 29th last year.
. last year i had mulch manure compost down from Purina Farms. I opted out this Year. trying to save a few bucks and thought the load I had last was a little "hot" and got nitrogen burn, But I think it was just mean old blight.

Edit.... I meant left side... When i get a chance i am going back and getting a big load mulch/manure from Purina and put it just around the plants. They all need the weed protection and fertilizer as a bonus. but they only load Friday afternoons... when I am working of course. gotta figure that one out... Also, my father in law says the wood chips are inviting cutworms. I know nothing about them. I have lost 3 plants so far and he says that what it was. Hollow feeling stems. Any input on that? 2 of the plant were about 6' apart the other one was 30 ' away.

Had my first tomato on June 27th!
More on the way I think 20 Heidi plants was too many! I am going to canning like crazy! Cucumbers and cantaloupe These were all pictures taken last weekend, the 27th. A lot has changed since then. I have probably picked 10lbs since then with lots more on the way. I will take more pics this morn and post them tomorrow.

I went to Purina Farms and got 5000 lbs of mulch/manure compost for the garden. My poor half ton had a job pulling that load! total wieght was 11480 lbs!
I am putting it just around the plants I picked these on July 1st And, picked these yesterday, July 3rd. 11lbs And this nice one, it weighed 1lb 1 oz I was down in the garden yesterday morning working and went up to the house for lunch (A greezy cheezy cheeseburger with bacon and a nice thick slice of tomato on, delish!) Anyway I came down to this, It was fine when I left. I know for a fact because it has A nice big zucchini on. I gave it a good drick of water. Hven't made it down there yet but headed there now to see whats going on. Around here people try for their first tomato by July 4th, I have picked at la=east 20 lbs so far.. Not bad.

First I need to warn you about something you are having fun.
Dont let anyone know you are having fun. Tell them this is the last year doing this. Then next year do it again. Second your squash plant has vine borers in the vines no amount of water will save it. If you look along the main stem you will see the little holes and you can split the stem to remove the grubs. Their probably a goner. Worth |
