My MIL had a couple falls within a week and it became very obvious that she wasn't able to continue living on her own. It wasn't until we moved her in with us that we realized just how much help she needs with everything. Can't really leave her alone at all- too much of a fall risk.

So, the garden will be scaled back in a huge way for now. To every thing there is a season...

Ah yes. I am feeling you on that one. Have MIL health issues here too. We haven't had to take the move in step yet though.

Oh my!! Kath, your tomatoes look so delish!! Fantastic pictures. Are Top Sirloin and Elgin Pink as meaty and tasty as they look?? I have been wanting to try Work Release Paste for a while. Your pictures and descriptions have me convinced I need to place another small order, and expand my tomato growing list just a bit more. My list will still be much smaller than previous years. I am sorry to read about your MIL' s fall. I hope she is doing better. Your a sweetheart for taking her in and caring for her. I know it is not easy. I have been going through similar circumstances with my father, who took ill a year ago. After going through a lot of rehab, he is finally able to live on his own again for now. Take care of yourself. Ginny

Hi, Ginny! Thank you for all your kind comments, and yes, I think all 3 of those are worth a try in your garden. Glad to hear your father is doing better. My MIL has improved a bit since we weaned her of the sleeping pills and as the bone bruise on her tail end is healing, but she won't ever be able to live on her own again. She's in stage 4 renal failure and at 88 has decided against dialysis- also has CHF, diabetes, etc.

Looking forward to spring & more sun and fresh air.

Kath,

So sorry to hear about your MIL. You hang in there, I'll be saying a prayer, for you and your loved ones in this time. Your MIL is blessed to have such a caring and loving daughter in law..Godspeed.

Good luck and best circumstances and outcome for you and your family, Kath. Your photos are beautiful. I had not heard of Elgin Pink, but it's sort of how I think of Rebel Yell. Now I have to try it.

Hi, Ginger! Thank you, too, for your kind words. My Elgin Pink seeds came from Tormato and I saved and sent a lot back to him for the swap for this year, but Mariseeds sells them as "Pink Elgin" if you can't wait until I save more this year. Rebel Yell is certainly one of the new ones that I'm looking forward to trying this year because I've heard so many rave about it.

Hi, Ella! Actually, my Black Magic seeds were from Steve @ Heritage Tomato Seed.

I just sent seeds for Black Magic to Terry at Secret Seed Cartel a week ago, seeds that Steve ( Heritage) had sent me for my seed offer last year.

So either Terry has the fastest growing Black Magic plants up and growing and fruiting and saving seed in record time, or she had some and for some reason they didn't work out.

Interesting - since I grew up in Elgin IL - I may have to try these eventually.
