I got the 2015 Southern Exposure Seed Exchange catalog in yesterday. I opened it up to basically the middle, and the first thing I see is: Tomatoes section, on page 50, "German Red Strawberry"... Introduced 1995... SESE, seed from Dr. Carolyn Male.

Default Seed catalog links

I last updated the master free seed catalog list in August. It's getting harder to find seed companies that I don't have linked so if you know of any I don't have please let me know and I'll add them.

So far I've only gotten 3 for 2015. I may need to fill out a request for the one that haven't come in.

Burpee showed up in my mailbox today. Looked at the shipping cost
Then the price per pack of tomato seeds
Wow.

I concur about Burpee. I do like some things they sell, so my solution is that I keep I subfolder in my 'bookmarks/favorites' for Burpee and put links in there for everything I might want from them -- then whenever I see a good enough discount code for them, I place an order. Some years they don't offer any discounts I consider 'good enough' but when I do place an order I get enough of the items I want to last a while, so I don't need to order from them every year. One thing about Burpee, though, I've always gotten the correct items shipped pretty promptly, which is not true of everyone.

I create subfolders not just for Burpee, but for every company I order from. Through the year, I save links in each company's folder whenever I see something I'd like to order from them. With most, though, I don't wait for special discounts -- most of the places I order from have reasonable prices/shipping all the time. But most years I have just a few things I really *need* to order, so I look through my favorite companies to see who has what I need, and then from those I order from the one that has the "needs" and also the most tempting saved "don't need it, just want it" items.

It doesn't feel like Christmas unless those catalogs arrive I got my Johnny's and Baker Creek catalogs and promptly came to he conclusion that I need a bigger yard. There's so much I'd love to grow, but I just don't have the space.

They've been trickling in, and while I do look through every one from cover to cover, they've all quickly found their way into the recycling bin. The only order I placed is for some fresh lettuce seed from Johnny's, and hopefully it'll be the only order I place. We'll see....

I gave up on Burpee many years ago, but just got the Cook's Garden catalog.

Ok, the original Cooks Garden was owned by Ellen and Shep Ogden near to me in VT. Fabulous catalog. Then they got divorced and Burpee bought them out. What a travesty of a catalog Burpee is putting out now for Cooks.

The catalog is half large pictures, wrong variety names, but what really angered me was in the organic section they showed a circular diagram, I'll do it straight out here where it went from organic seeds to organic plants to organic fruits.

No way, for it's HOW you grow the plants and with what amendmesnts that determines if they will be organic or not. Use non organic seeds to start with and you can still get organic fruits.

OK, I'll shut up now.

I have 15 catalogs on the couch with me and waiting on Baker Creek and Sandhill. Fedco has reasonable prices and good seeds for short seasons. I also sometimes order from The Natural Gardening Company. I have not ordered from Irish Eyes since they moved from Montana. Territorial has fast shipping and a good selection. I always order something from SSE because it makes me feel good. Vermont Bean is the only place that has Black Bell eggplant that I love. I like the supplies at Pinetree. They even have tea. Burpee prices are high but I order Sweet Tangerine and Palace King Cucumber. I like the large packets of zinnias at JW Jung and have ordered trees and shrubs from them as well. Johnnys has Defiant and Mountain Fresh tomatoes and a good selection of squash. I also have Harris, Totally Tomatoes, and Shumway. The shipping always gets me when I order from so many different places. I did place orders on line at Tomatofest, Tatiana's and Secret Seed Cartel. It's an addiction.

Sandhill catalogs are showing up in mailboxes. Take a look at the new corn, beans, and tomatoes this year!
