Each season I grow from seed under lights. Within a week of the seedlings producing their first true leaves I will have an oscillating fan on them causing the plant to become stronger.

This along with my light setup being as close to the seedlings as possible I have come very close to replicating the stocky plants that one sees from Bonnie.

Of course I don't feed my seedlings growth inhibitors nor do they stop growing under lights.

Julia. That's very interesting. How long do you use the fan? How close is it to the plants?

I do the same thing with the fan. You want the seedlings gently swaying in the breeze.

Gunrunner, I use a stand mounted oscillating fan set on low on the seedlings for 18 hours a day on a timer. As the seedlings begin to grow away from the main source of wind flow I will rotate the seedlings to where they face towards the wind flow. I will keep the fan on the seedlings until I am ready to move them outside for the hardening off process. This time frame is approx. from immediately after the first leaves form around the first week in April to the first week in May when they are being hardened off.
