I will always remember how huge those babies were standing in the middle of the road when they first left the nest. That was 25 years ago and I still remember it well. |

Couple of weeks ago I heard an Eagle-owl (Bubo bubo)sounds at my cottage in Southern Finland. An eerie hu-huu was distinctive and the bird was not far, about 50m from me. I saw it when another one answered and this bird moved a bit. Its wings are pretty wide; more than 1,50 metres.
The time it was too dark to try to take photos and I would have needed a telephoto lens. |

We've been hearing some owls in the swampy area by our creek. They sound like horned owls but could be spotted I guess. I've heard them several times now. Just hope they leave our cats and my little dog alone. I sure hope they eat snakes, too.

It's funny all my life I've heard Great Horned owls and when my wife and I had a home in downtown Erie we had a Screech owl family take up residence next door, but I had never heard or seen a Barred owl. Turns out I only had to drive about 20 minutes away to do so.
You will find a live cam here, http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Barred_Owl/sounds, but before you click on that scroll down a little to hear the sounds they make, they are quite vocal. Last edited by beefsteak; April 12, 2015 at 09:41 AM. |
