I just got a PM from Salt.
they are ok but had some garden damage.
He told me the internet keeps coming and going so if he doesn't post anything you guys will know why.

I dont know the lighting and thunder woke me up and I went bace to sleep.
This morning no limbs in the yard and 1/2 inch of rain.

I can sleep like a baby in a good storm.

I don't know yet how high the winds got but I believe they were actually stronger than the bad hurricane we had here many years ago where winds topped 80 mph. but the saving grace was how short the duration was. I don't think the hard winds lasted more than 10 or 15 minutes but they sure did a lot of damage in a short time. There were some huge trees just totally knocked down like they were twigs and many a tree had the top half just snapped off just from what I can see from my yard. I never got around to driving around but my wife went a mile to see her mother and had to drive through parking lots and around trees and power lines just in that short trip. I don't even know if she could have gotten over there early this morning but the city has had crews out working since last night clearing streets and restoring power.

I had some plants damaged quite severely but they are young and most will recover. Good thing they were well tied up. The ones that weren't were flat on the ground or broken. Lots of shredded leaves on the tomatoes. Funniest thing I saw was what happened to my beans. I have them supported by a rack so they won't fall over and on Friday I was thinking I would have a good crop of beans to pick. When I checked them the plants were pretty beat up but almost all the bean pods that were nearly mature had just blown away. Hopefully they will make more.

It will take me days to pick up all the debris in my yard and garden and I feel like I am one of the lucky ones in my neighborhood. I will have to have my old pear tree taken out of the tops of my dogwoods and my neighbors shed which it didn't damage much. I'm so glad we had all the pine trees cut down shortly after buying this house. I had 27 large pines and I'm sure if they were still in the yard I would only have about 10 to 15 still standing. I always hated raking pine straw and picking up pine cones as a kid and now I see what a good thing that was.
