An observation:
My Riesentraube seedlings is one of the 5 smallest/shortest among 45 seedlings. All started the same time and cared for the same way. It looks like Robert's RT in the picture above. I read in several seed sellers site that it grows 4' to 5' tall but bushy. That makes sense ; bushy plants normally won't grow very tall. We shall see. Time is nearing plant out. Gardeneer |

Gardeneer,
They are absolutely my slowest germinating and growing tomato plants by far. They produce a lot of tomatoes - or at least what I grew last year did. |

I grew Riesentraube last year. The plant was 4ish feet tall and bushy. The fruit were both round with nipple and oval with nipple. Both fruit types were from the same plant. If I remember correctly there were a few fruit that only had a small dot but no nipple. Kinda like the nipple never popped out. Lol.

I grew this one in central Montana, and never kept any seeds, as it was pretty bland. Could well be the alkaline soil, but...Pretty prolific, and beautiful fruit (with a nipple)!

I can live with 4ish feet. I don't like very tall plants. I am going to grow it in a 15-20 gallon pot. I can manage it w/ 4+ ft. As far as the fruit shape it can be round or somewhat oval. But the nipple is a feature. Gardeneer |

Gardeneer, and everyone. The ones I grew last year that I nicknamed VHS Cherry. Some of the nipples were very hard. Not like a thorn but still a little too firm.

That is a perfect analogy! They are almost prickly! Mine just didn't fly, though, thick skin and not much flavor. Maybe I gave up too soon?

Trying Riesentraube for the first time this year. I grow my cherries on 8 foot bamboo pyramids, they just go up and over and down, and I just let them roll.

This is how I was talking about growing the Riesentraube,
Gardeneer, they have grown inches since I planted them. They're growing like weeds now. |

Yes, Robert. They look pretty short. When did you sow them and when planted them out ?
Most of my seedlings (plants now) Are close to 8" tall. But RT and NBd are about 3" tall. So I figure they should be the same size at maturity. Both of them are going to go in pot. Gardeneer |

I planted seeds on January 17th. I planted them in the garden 5 days ago, and they have started growing already.
They're growing just like mine have. When they get planted out in the warm soil they'll catch up in size, and when the multiflora blooms start - you'll wonder what you're going to do with all those tomatoes My plants last year grew to 5.5 feet tall and 3+ feet wide. I grew them in a cages like the ones in the pictures above, but the cages were much smaller (Mistake) However, the ones I grew last year may have been a cross too?
