Tam91, the original seed sharer never closed the original seed offer from almost 2 years ago (below), so those wanting seed can ask her if it's still open!

I just PMed Tracy to see if she has any seeds to share with me. I would love to grow this variety for our seed catalog.

I don't think any seed company carries it yet but I can spare a few of what I have left after my seed offer:
http://www.tomatoville.com/showthrea...649#post588649 Send me a PM if interested. (Not a general offer- I've already been contacted by someone else asking for seeds.) kath Last edited by kath; August 25, 2016 at 12:37 AM. Reason: clarification |

Yes they can, but probably best to put up a post in the Wanted section rather than randomly asking for seeds in other threads such as this one. Or, if someone has the seeds and wants to share, they can put up an offer in the Available for Trade section such as Kath has. |

I'll have seeds before long, after I harvest a few more.

George Detsikas was very productive for me with the largest tomato weighing 2 1/4 lbs. Good tasting.
The other outstanding tomatoes so far this year are. 1. Orange Jazz. Grew 3 plants and all were very productive. Eating one is like eating a juicy ripe peach. Very sweet and juicy with similar texture to the peach. My favorite so far this year. (still waiting for some other varieties to ripen) 2. Daniel Bursen. Outstanding taste and production. A must grow for me from now on. 3. Rose de Berne. Very good tomato taste in a 4 to 8 ounce tomato. No cracking or deformities. My wife's favorite tomato this year. 4. Big Cheef. Another great tasting and productive tomato that is a must grow for me. 5. Granny's Heart. Always a reliable, great tasting and productive tomato. These are the best out of about 30 varieties I've tried this year. Still have 20 more varieties to try. Cloz |

GD isn't the most productive for me, but it's certainly up there. It's not a bad tomato; just not high on my list. It's decent, but I tend to favor tomatoes with a more distinctive flavor.
For those interested in big 'matos, GD should be tried at least once. They get very big. Size ranges were between 17 ounces to 26 ounces. There are still many more on the vine and some still setting fruit. |

I harvested a tomato that was probably George Detsikas Italian Red (but it wasn't one of the big ones I was planning to save seeds from; so I didn't track it to check). To me, it had a distinctive, unique taste. It tasted a lot like tomato soup (without having to cook it to get that flavor), although it was a fairly mild flavor. I should taste one that is the true variety for sure not too far in the future.

We're probably just over 100 varieties tasted this summer including various crosses and hybrids, and in a few months if I was asked in a few months to describe GD's taste, I'd say it tastes like a good red. Hard to tell apart from other good reds. Between the spitters and good tomatoes, I'd probably say only 10% end up being extremely memorable (for us at least). MY GD plant is pumping out tomatoes like crazy, some are huge. So far I have found the taste to be quite mild. I'm actively picking them just at blush, even just before so the squirrels don't get to them, so I'm not sure how that is impacting them flavor wise and ripening.
I also have some seeds that I had received from fellow TV'ers. Not sure if I'll be saving seed myself so PM me if you want a few. Sharon |

We just had our first GDIR. It took 98 days to ripen, which is only surprising because it ripened at all. The plant has been in a makeshift tunnel, and we've had a very cool summer, with nighttime temperatures well under 60 degrees and as low as 36. There are a good number of fruits with an average weight just under a pound, and most are now blushing. For us, it has an outstandingly delicious intense tomato flavor, with a creamy texture, and is the best this season of 25 varieties. Thank you so much for the seeds, Tam91!

I think my George Detsikas Italian Red tomato plant may not have been as productive as I was saying, as I think some of the tomatoes I saw may have belonged to Cuostralee, Chapman and Celebrity F1. Nevertheless, it seems most of the tomatoes on it were huge, and it wasn't unproductive in sheer mass of tomatoes. I'm wanting to seed four huge ones, today. I'm not sure how many are outside, but there should be at least more. However, for a crowded plant whose direct parent was grown in a humid and different climate much farther south, it's doing very awesomely. I plan to grow it next year.

I'm glad so many people are enjoying this one. I haven't been on the forum much, sorry, crazy year. But I do still have plenty of seed.
