Wow, I never put it together til it just hit me after you posted it! Now I know why the fertilizer companies have cut way back on middle #'s... I have an account with BFG and remember the Plantex, Peters/Jack's, and Scotts had footnotes that their low P number formulas were designed to be used with Phosphoric acid.

I am of the opinion that NOBODY really knows what a tomato plants need, specifically.
This includes fertilizer manufacturing companies ( lik MG ) and many university extension services. Just go and check recommendations on Cornell and U of MO.
If you look at all the fertilizers targeting home gardeners, the most distinctive thing is that they all have about 3% Ca and about 2% Mg.
