The tomato I've only tasted once a few years ago, but it left a lasting impression is Aunt Gertie's Gold. It only ripened one tomato the one year that I grew it, but trying it again this year to see if it really is as incredible as I remember.

(Big Cheef is the username of the person it was named for, spelled just like that )

Ginger, I did not understand your post? Were you suggesting Big Cheef?

Not suggesting it, the OP is already growing it. I thought he meant the spelling was off, but then I realized (sic) in his case meant himself.

Do everything you can, beyond your other varieties, to get ripe ones.

It deserves the best spot in the garden, the longest amounts of sun, the most warmth, whether it's sun early in the morning or until late in the evening, an early sowing start, some type of wall of water covering (a homemade one with large soda bottles?), or a clear plastic removable mini-greenhouse covering (clotches), irrigate only with "warm" water, irrigate at the right time of day in order to keep the soil warm, etc...

And, if you don't have the best location (sun, sun, sun, ), would a close-by friend have the right spot?
