Suze, Thanks for your reply. All 3 of my PH plants look identical. I have 2 of them growing side by side to 2 Black Cherry plants and my foilage also looks the same. But my PH and BC plants are all about the same size, just starting to grow out of the top of 5' tall CRW cages. My PH are also putting on more fruit than the BC, but my PH fruit is 2 to 3 times the size of the BC fruit. I believe my PH plants are also F2's.

Is there any chances of some larger fruits in the F3 generation say 6-8 oz. or larger? Is so I might have to beg for some F3 seeds to try and see what I get.

Go big,
I have limited space, so will never be able to grow out, as Darrel suggests. I have only 4 Purple Haze plants growing (in the two center 'Tainers): Fortunately, 2 are RL and 2 are PL. It does appear that the RL clusters look more typical of cherry tomatoes, while the ones growing on the PL vines look like they will develop into larger fruit. Too early to draw any firm conclusions, but I am hoping the PL will deliver slicers. Ray |

I have had a dozen or so ripe PH over the last 2 or 3 days. I said in an earlier post that I thought mine were F2 but I was wrong, they are only F1. The plants are 6' tall and look identical to my Black Cherry plants. These are also the largest plants of any varieties I have. The tomatos are very tasty and look like a large version of BC. They are 2 to 3 times the size of BC. Almost to big to be a cherry. The plants are very healthy and are loaded with fruit. They also contain a lot of seeds so if ayone wants some F2 seeds for next year I should have some.

cypert2,
Who was your seed source? The single F1 plant I have looks a bit like black cherry, but I would say the fruits are 4-6 times larger and I notice SLIGHT ribbing.

Due to our poor weather this year the Purple Haze plants haven't gotten very tall, maybe 36"-42". Kept them in large pots on our sundeck. Just ate my first tomato from these yesterday.
One PL version has fruit that vary from mini beafsteaks to round 3 oz ones. The other PL has fruit that are 2-3 oz, perfectly round, not quite as early maturing. The early maturing version seems to have shape of Brandywine, the coloring of Cherokee Purple, downsized by the Black Cherry to middle ground. Taste is a combination of all three. Have one that is just about ripe, I will take a pic of before eating! With all the rain we had for Junuary(June), the tomato's did get cracks. Hopefully the rest will ripen properly with warmer, dry weather in July & August. Should mention the tomato's are a dusky brownish -light red. Wow, very tasty... Need More!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ps... saved 8 seeds from the first plant so far Take care, Randy

First ripe one is on it's way!!
Still will be a few days but I'm happy it's finally turning. Man is this one big plant! Growing as fast and big as BC. Got to put bigger stakes in there as it's approaching 7'. Fruits are little larger than last years BC. I planted some suckers for two people here at TV with plans on giving them to them at Tomatopalooza but I don't think they'll make it. Already 1.5' tall and growing fast. By the end of July, they'll be 5-6'! Nice healthy looking plant. Greg |

Greg,
Fully agree that PH is quite prolific. Mine are over 8 ft. as of today. Also loaded with fruit: Have been picking them for a few days now: Ray |
