To repel bees, plant feverfew.

(I have seeds of feverfew, yet to find out if this is true)

One thing that those new to this swap and to growing and haven't saved seeds before, make sure you ferment them and dry them good. If you haven't done it before, there are some good threads on it here in TV.

Vladimir,

The reason there is no F1 category (yet), is because there is little request for hybrids other than for SunGold F1, Big Beef F1, and just a couple of others. If about 10 people each sent in a different F1 there could be an F1 category.

There are a few T'ville members who create there own (non-commercial) F1 crosses, who participate in the swap. Perhaps there could be a combined commercial/non-commercial F1 category?

I learned how to save seeds last year -- my husband is a chemist, and the seed-fermentation process is the only part of tomato-growing he enjoys. The seeds had a 100% germination rate.

If this newbie would welcome to join the fun, I'll tell my husband to break out his fanciest beakers.

I could also plan to save seeds from the green tomatillo plants I'm growing, and/or the ground cherries, if anyone's interested. Both seem to be attracting more bees than the tomatoes...
Hudson Valley,

Welcome to Tomatoville. And, you're welcome to join the swap.

Just to let you know, the 2nd M in MMMM stands for Mystery.

Here is a great article written by our own Ted Maiden on How to Save Tomato Seeds. It is a MUST READ for all MMMM participants.

That is a great article and VERY easy to follow. Thanks for posting that, it answers a lot of the questions I had. The only question I have left (for now) is when is it to late to bag a blossom to prevent cross pollination? I'm assuming it needs to be done before it opens.

A noob reminded me...

Beans, peas, and other legumes.

Beans have their own seperate swap, and are also included in the MMMM swap.

I'm bagging the tomato blossoms to prevent cross-pollination... As for the tomatillos and ground cherries, I have only a single variety of each. That should work, right?

If the change was good, I'll accept responsibility. If the change was bad, it's all of the other participants fault.

Lots of blooming and lots of greenies here but I start in WOW early. This might be a year when we are swimming in tomatoes.
