Around here, I'm not sure why, but people will say, "A butt load of..." I'm guessing it came from, "A boat load of..."?

A butt is actually the same as two hogsheads. Much the same as there are two pints in a quart.

I think I'd rather have a tun than a butt load - https://www.google.com/amp/gizmodo.c...?client=safari

Okay you two, you have proven to me that having a butt load of something is a good thing. I have mostly heard it used as, "He/she has a butt load of money." Even though I knew what people meant - now I can define it. (Trying not to laugh too much) So given the time this measurement was used... I can't help it

I wish it is grammaticaly legal to say : a b. load of thanks to you, Spike2 and Salt for your generosity!

I want to grow a 300 feet rows of bush beans for a local Lookout shelter. For that quantity I will have to buy from a vendor. I' m rather inexperienced in growing bush beans. Any recommendations on top producing varieties? I want a few varieties from the trade here for trial.

I also will grow 1/2 acre winter squash. Again researching for varieties to grow. We get grey molds so it needs to be early, but no vine borers. Again looking for recommendations.

I'm sorry if I missed this but I am being sponsored and read that envelope should be a 6 inch x 9 inch bubble envelope but I am not clear on how much postage should be sent in? Should it be more if my wish list includes beans, squash and/or melons seeds since those seeds are larger? I assume that a 6 inch x 9 inch bubble envelope does not need to be upsized for those of us wanting beans, squash and/or melons seeds, right?

Gary has some info on this in post 56 (http://www.tomatoville.com/showthrea...e#post580027):

BUBBLE MAILERS - Most participants are requested to use bubble mailers. A size "0" ( 6" X 9") is best for tomatoes/peppers and small flower, fruit, veggie seed, with maybe a few small packs of beans. Size "000" may be too small, since you may be receiving back more than you sent in. Bubble mailers will be recycled, with your bubble mailer likely going back to you. Of course, the "0" is not large enough for some donations. With some international participants, a further discussion will be needed to see how many packs of seeds they would like. Using "greeting cards" instead of bubble mailers saves a lot on postage costs.

LABELING - If you're taping on a label (or using a peel and stick) make sure it is secure. Good quality (heavy duty) clear packing tape is the only thing I use. Low quality clear packing tape is OK for labels, but tears easily. It's not great for sealing packages, unless several layers are used. "Transparent" (1/2" or 3/4 ") tape can be a disaster.

POSTAGE - Domestic postage is $2.54 for up to three ounces, $2.74 for up to 4 ounces, $2.94 for up to 5 ounces. Many, if not most, MMMM packages will likely be under 3 ounces (I think). Putting the return postage ( cash/stamps only) in your bubble mailer before anything else goes in, makes it easier to not forget it.

Those participating in the Bean/Pea/Other Legume swap by itself, or with the MMMM, will likely be using Flat Rate padded envelopes ($6.80 postage last time I looked).

Next will be your paper send-in and wish list.
Sometimes it can be more:

It is not too late yet, but you had best check in with your sponsor to make sure that everything is all set for you. I know that if I have chosen to sponsor someone and have not talked with them, then I think that they have opted out of the swap or are all set on their own.

So much stuff going on around here, I was thinking the deadline was the 21st! My fault for not checking. Should I just go ahead and send it in? I can send it off priority mail tomorrow(I can't afford anything faster) Will there be seeds left? I would just be thankful for whatever we get back. I am so sorry!

Hmm...the deadline I wrote on my calendar is Nov. 17. I was away for a week and am just starting to get my seeds organized to send! Gary has been very kind to procrastinators in the past .
