Grafted Cherokee purple are loaded with largish fruit. They are grafted on Big Beef rootstock.

Stupice in Austin, Texas
Stupice, as shown on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Austin, Texas. We picked the first fruit about a week ago. These were picked yesterday, now fermenting those seeds. Fair taste for an early tomato.

Cherokee Purple, Chocolate Cherry, Black Cherry
Ate some of both cherries...great taste! Good to see fellow Tomatovillians' crops coming in.

They're getting ripe...
Yesterday's pickings. I have only 8 plants.

Dwarf Mr. Snow
This is Dwarf Mr. Snow planted outside about April 12. This is a new variety for me. Love the foliage!

Boxcar Willie
Ripe fruit is about to happen. I am seeing photos of dwarf varieties all over this site and interested in trying some for next year. Since my tomato bed can handle only 8-9 plants of regular-size plants, I'm thinking the dwarves would be a smart choice.

That's an interesting Box Car Willie. I've never seen BCW fluted so much. I grew it a few years ago and mine were almost smooth and round.

The BCW I see on the internet are oblate and somewhat lobed, but not as fluted as mine are.

Linda (Ukraine)

So glad I found this one -- definitely bigger than a cherry. Generally comparable in size to 4th of July for me. I got a few last season that were nearly 5 oz. although mostly 2-3 oz. There are two plants in a 12" basket. I got my seeds from Ukraine, but found out later that Heritage Seed Mkt. carries this variety (Bunny Hop). Next to it (barely in the pic) is 19x F5 from Dan Follett, selected at F4 by KarenO. These are PL chocolate with excellent taste. There are also two of these in a 12" basket. -GG Last edited by Greatgardens; May 22, 2018 at 07:42 AM. |

On another note, I had too many tomatoes for two people to eat, so I made my famous red wine pasta sauce. Don't laugh because my cooking and canning made only four jars. Donna, Texas Gulf Coast |

Technically not a tomato plant picture....
Three Paul Robesons and two pink Arkansas Travelers (in the back). I tried PR for the first time this year and I like the taste even better than that of Cherokee Purple. Also tried JD's Special C-Tex (another dark tomato) and IMHO it also beats Cherokee Purple for taste.

Carmello
This has been the best producer (besides the cherries) this year.
