Tried one of the okra again and they are getting better by the hour and hotter.
The experiment pickled cucumbers are good too. The mustard okra is amazing. I used turmeric Colman's prepared mustard and regular mustard in the jar for that one. I have another basket full of cucumbers. More okra needs picking but it can wait. Worth |

I cant think of a person around here to give cucumbers to.
For me it is very hard to give away garden vegetables to people that have just as much if not more area than I have to grow things. But no gumption or ambition to do so. The okra is a no brainer I can eat it as fast as it comes in and pickle or freeze the rest if need be. The small amount I picked today is just right for a small shrimp gumbo. Comparison on cucumbers. As it is now I see no difference in National pickling and Boston pickling, to me they are the same. At 5 inches long they are still practically seedless and meaty. Five inches is where I pick them unless they are misshapen on one end. Just before the stem end starts to turn yellow. Many of these odd ones I pick and eat in the garden as I walk by. Worth |

* Flavor. * In hot climes capsaicin stimulates sweating and thus helps the body to cool itself (irony?). * But the overwhelming reason is the brain's natural reaction to pain - the production of endorphins, those good drugs I referenced above. Very similar to opioids, or so I hear. The demonstration eaters on youtube are idiots. You will note that the pepper almost invariably wins because they're playing out of their league. Even the legitimate reviewer occasionally loses big time (there's one vid I'll post somewhere if I can find it). Testosterone poisoning is definitely not a reason for someone to come back a second time. In fact, women can be at a competitive advantage when it comes to pain tolerance. Notice who wins the progressive contest in the vid I link to in this thread: http://www.tomatoville.com/showthread.php?t=45103

I will be growing some hot peppers for others, but for me, the very mild or sweet ones will do. I used to like hot peppers a lot, but got ill for a bit and then could no longer tolerate them let alone enjoy them.

Smokey was hacking in the yard and hacked up half a watermelon leaf with stem then went and laid down in the shade.
I bet she doesn't do that again. I brought her in the house it is too hot out there for her. Worth |

Sometimes cucumbers are as hard to see as horn worms.
Yesterday I saw one that needed picking right out in the open. I went to go do something and came back and it was gone. Today I looked for that cucumber till I was blue in the face several times and decided I had picked it with the rest. But I had that nagging feeling it was there some place. Just a bit ago I was looking at things and it appeared like a ghost in front of me right out in the open. Worth |

I suspect all in that family can do that trick. I have had many do that almost as I was looking at them! Zukes are as bad as cukes about that.

Just picked another pile of cucumbers and more okra.
Next year the whole darn drive from one end to the other is going to be a container garden with the tubs both sides. More than likely I will start this fall with what we call our winter crops. If I didn't mention it before I turned the drip system on the raised beds to automatic. An hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. The okra and everything is exploding. At the rate it is growing I may have to use a cat walk to pick it later this year. Also saw a big green tree frog high up in the plants. Worth |

The same thing either MG natures care organic raised bed soil or the Kellogs raised bed soil and perlite. I do not intend to get rid of the stuff I have either. I will just chop off the stems mix in more Plant Tone and re plant. I know I sound like a broken record but I cant say enough good about either one of the products for containers. Neither one of these products that say soil have soil in them. Worth |

From what you describe (the whole driveway with containers) it looks like you are going to get a bunch of whatever you decide.

Worth, is there much difference in the taste between pickling cucumbers and regular cucumbers (Examples - Straight Eight / Marketmore 76). Eating them fresh - not pickled.
