Passiflora Inspiration
Quote:
The taste is very sweet and fruity....maybe like Hawaiian Punch or a combination of tropical fruits.

Lantana
This is in a large pot on a stand on the front porch. Loved by hummingbirds and butterflies alike.

I have to be careful where I plant lantana. Our veterinarian told us it was poisonous to dogs, cats, and horses.

Interesting. Fortunately, it is a plant with leaves not palatable to most small pets. A friend's cat almost died after eating Easter lily leaves.

Our dog Rusty will eat the leaves. That's why I can't have any in our backyard because that is where our dogs use the bathroom.

Bizarre how we all want things that are not good for us, including our pets.

Pretty lantana. I think this is the first year in a while that I didn't have two hanging on the front porch. Just never got around to it.

I was just saying the other day that I've never seen a Monarch in the garden. Well, lookee what came visiting two days ago! It was on those poor zinnias that are rapidly declining. And it only wanted to mess with the red ones.
I've noticed that the Fritillarys are starting to show some ragged looking wings. Their time is getting short. Meanwhile the fall mums are blooming and that's brought in a whole new set of butterflies, mainly various skippers. They are about an inch or so wide and I think there are several closely related ones on those blooms. I've tentatively ID'd the first one as a Fiery Skipper but the second one is a bit different. Both have been submitted to the Butterflies and Moths of North America site for identification. https://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/ |

Shrimp plant
After a hiatus of several months the shrimp plants are blooming again. This is normal.

Passion vine producing fruit
Last year my first year passiflora "Inspiration" produced only a couple of fruits. I thought it was basically sterile. But in the second year the plant grew much larger and now I see several fruits hanging from the vine. I also learned that I can pick the fruit and eat it when the color is a green-yellow. You don't eat the skin...only the pulp.

Lots of butterflies lately on the last of the zinnias and fall mums.
Two shots of a Long Tailed Skipper. There have been lots of these around but I just never took a shot of them: American Lady Common Buckeye Checkered Skipper. I'm not sure which one but I submitted it to the Butterflies and Moths org. for ID. |
